Ryan says his tax cuts will be "revenue neutral," but refuses to specify a single deduction or loophole that would disappear. The analyses have pointed out that with as sharp a cut as he's proposing, there just aren't enough loopholes to close to make the numbers come close to adding up. This is why we shouldn't just passively accept the convention wisdom calling him a "serious thinker" or a "fiscal conservative." In reality, he's neither.

In particular, the Democrats are salivating at the prospect of making Ryan not only Mitt Romney's running mate, but also the running mates of all 33 Republican Senate candidates and all 435 House candidates. Here are the highlights of Ryan's budget. •Spending. Discretionary spending (FBI, FDA, education, health care, veterans, NASA, etc.) will be cut by 50% •Taxes. Two brackets created: 10% and 25%, corporate tax cut from 35% to 25%, alternate minimum tax repealed •Medicare. Abolished in current form. Seniors get vouchers to buy private insurance if they can •Medicaid. This health-care program for the poor would be turned into block grants to states to use as they wished •Food. Food stamps would be turned into block grants to states. Price supports for farmers would be reduced. In short, the budget decimates just about everything except defense, social security, and interest payments in order to cut the top marginal tax rate. The budget has been called a fantasy by none other than David Stockman who can hardly be labeled a liberal. He ran the budget office for President Ronald Reagan and knows a thing or two about the conservative approach to the federal budget. http://www.electoral-vote.com/...l#item-2
