Actually, the gov't does subsidize beaches. In SoCal gov't pays to replenish sand that gets washed away by winter storms, it pays to have beaches kept clean, it pays for life guards, etc.

    The Gipper was an idiot.

And unemployment increased from 7% to 10%. Inflation decreases when everyone is out of work. We've seen that the past two years.

Inflation was tamed by very high interest rates imposed by the Federal Reserve. Reagan not only had nothing to do with that, he actually tried to get the Fed to lower the interest rates as they strangled the economy (which is how you kill inflation).

It was Paul Volker (Chainman of the Federal Reserve) who tamed inflation by raising interest rates. And guess who appointed him?

That's right, it was Jimmy Carter.

Facts can be so inconvenient for Teabaggers.
Those high interest rates were a very bitter, but necessary medicine that had to be taken.

Yep, after Jimmy Carter appointed Paul Volkers interest rates tamed inflation, the situation improved. The deficit spending helped too.

Not a tea party person here, but do agree with them on many issues.

As far as teabagging, thats a liberal fixation don't you think? :)

Hope that's not over your head, but then maybe that's the way you like it.

Here is a quote for you, you may like it.

"If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain."

A love the contradiction. The whole "I agree with them a lotm but I'm bot one of them" is a BS cop out.

I also love how you resort to ah hominem attacks when you lack facts to back up your positions.

A real class act. I will now heed the the warnings of other and I will stop feeding you.

    Toodles!

Winston Churchill was also a sexual abuser and was deemed to have mental health problems before he died. Yes, he is loved because he was a successful wartime leader, but he could not get ellected before the war nor after it.

He also said democracy was the lesser evil, though that might just be true.

Of course, in the parliamentary system, Churchill was not voted in as Prime Minster per se; only the constituents of his district voted him in. But the voters returned a majority of Conservatives, and he was their leader - thus he became P.M. (It's kind of like if the Speaker of the House became Prime Minister.)

Interestingly, despite his great popularity during the war, it did not translate into the Conservatives winning the first post-war election. (Chamberlain was also a Conservative, which many people don't know, and Churchill actually led a coalition government with major Labour party figures in important cabinet positions, which doesn't happen during peacetime.) Labour won the 1945 elections handily and the Attlee government was the one who laid the groundwork for what we think of as the modern British mixed (capitalist/socialist) economy.
