And many areas are going through costume changes. this new fiscal year brings new costumes to new areas.

And i dont know about you, but i wouldnt want to have to wear big cluncky brown boots for an 8+ hour day. or the old mansion costume that you would already be in a sweat in before you even started your shift. In some cases, simple is better. People keep making comments about rude cast members...do you really think that a cast member having to deal with at least 8 costume pieces their entire shift is going to help that?

and if actually talk to the hyperion and tower cast members, ya they say their costume looks cool, but it sucks to wear all day. but i am done thinking youre older and bitter at my entire generation. back to everyone also posting.

I'm sure that hasn't helped in keeping popular sizes in stock.

Maybe it's just me but when I was a cast member I saw myself as just that... part of a cast. As in acting a roll. I think more elaborate costume pieces would certainly help remind me of my roll and keep me in the show and therefore keeping the show up for all the guests.

I totally agree, Beth. Having to take the time to put on the whole Tour Guide costume helped me get into the part and the feel of being onstage - putting on all of those pins and then finally my nametag was the coolest! When I was an Area Tour Representative (back in the old Disney University days) I was able to wear the Thunder costume on more than one occasion and I loved it. The boots weren't that clunky, for crying out loud. The costumes weren't making CM's rude. Simplifying the costumes and having a blanket area costume has taken away from the uniqueness of the areas. Many friends of mine LOVED working Mansion because they got to wear the cool costumes. It was a rare CM who complained about them. The current concerns about rudeness are from recent times, not back when costuming was unique to the areas. I don't see a relationship between more elaborate costumes and rudeness. I do see a correlation between inability to get the right sizes, and having a costume that looks just like every other costume, being a factor in the CM's feeling less than "show ready." JMHO

but this subject makes me sad. i started when called "Great Cast Members!"

there are many reasons that someone can be rude, and there is always going to be someone under par. But lets focus on the great experiences!

I think imadisneygal addressed this fairly well. The concern over "rude CM's" didn't seem as prominent when costumes were more elaborate so if you feel like more intricate costumes will make the current CM's cranky... then there is a problem. One shouldn't effect the other unless the new costumes were unsafe or something along those lines.

I think there are still great CM's around... but ignoring CM's with poor attitudes won't fix the problem.

cast members and management both recognize the time and effort it takes for someone to go to city hall, wait in line, write down what happened, and then turn it in.

again, if anything good or bad happens, go to city hall. it is the best way to see that something gets done about it.

My advice to all of you, when ya get a castmember that just gives you bonkers great service, first tell them thanks for what they accomplished and then go to city hall and tell the rest of the castmembers what they did for you. Nothing like the feeling you get when someone tells you that you made them SMILE!!!!!! Thanks for letting me be a part of this little forum all!!!!!

I don't think that you can lump In-n-Out in that league. They ARE a team effort and they are rewarded for that.

There are team prizes, team trips, and other incentives depending on how your store is doing. Their pay is great for that kind of work.

The broader issue is that for forty years, costuming shortages were significantly less for *everyone* than they have been since the late 1990s. Coincidentally, that is when the "old ways" (on-site, permanent lockers for all staff, including a shoe locker; no FasTrak; no Costume shopping, but service at operations-areas-dedicated windows; bag checks going OUT to prevent Costumes from being taken) were thrown out the window. Even accepting the "we can't go back to the way it was" argument, it is still valid that the way it was WAS better, or at least functioned better in my (albeit limited) experience.

There's more people in the park than just you. If you the guest would be nice to others, it would come back ten fold.

Holy crap batman this guy just went blah blah blah lol if a cast member has a bad day the Guest pays the price. Is that fair? i think not the money we all pay to go to Disneyland is a fair amount and we should all get what we pay for. That does not mean the CM should kiss our feet but they should treat the guest with respect which most do.And yes if a guest gets stupid then they too should be asked to leave the park. No one should have to put up with rude peopleCM or Guest. If only that where possible for disney to do. I for one think they should. JMHO

To all the great CM's out there, this isn't about you. If you do a good job then I applaud you. But the truth is, that many CM's attitude had taken a nose dive. So keep on doing the great job you're doing and realize that some of your fellow CM's are NOT doing as good of a job as you and people are starting to notice. I don't think one person here has said that ALL CM's are bad. That is not the truth at all.)

I'm going to take the high road and treat this as a serious comment (big of me, huh?). It's not that I walk around looking for CM's to run up and do nice things for me, or fall at my feet thanking me for keeping them working. But there has always been a higher standard for an employee at a Disney park, and it seems as if that standard has slipped in the last few years. What I do expect from a CM is a courteous and informed response to any question I might have. If they don't know the answer, they point me to who does instead of chomping on their gum while rolling their eyes and mumbling "don't know". You get that in a mall - you shouldn't get it from a CM.

Get pissed at John Q. Public, not the CM's.
