That's absolutely true, and I think most people here feel the same way. But when you have an interaction with a CM, and the CM pulls some lame teen bored rude crap, that can really pull the wind out of your sails. And the general point of this thread is that there is a lot more of this activity these days than there was in the past.

    >The real culprit for DL not being the happiest place on earth, is the tourists that whine or come with their kids on leashes.<

I'll agree with you on that one - I just HATE to see the kids on the leashes! I know, I know, it works well for some parents. But my parents never had to do this, and I was probably more prone than just about any kid alive to wander off and explore. I was controlled by the discipline and attention of my parents, and I'm still alive to tell the tale.

Yup, keep making judgements about people you don't know in situations you clearly don't understand.

So many good points well taken

I wonder what happen to the magic of years ago ?

    What Changed ?

Why before did Disney turned down so many and it was a real accomplishment to get a jog at DISNEY and now the standard has been lowered ?

Does anyone know WHAT HAPPEN ?

Did the pay go down hill ?

    What is it ?

I remember the first time I went to Disney - years and years and years ago- What made it Magic - was partly the people, well a BIG part.

I have only ~ to memory receive one not so great moment with a CM. I have a puggy stomach and it took a second or so longer to fasten a seat belt and the CM was trying their hardest to not laugh.

Well I am very good with rolling my eyes, so I rolled them quite well and SAID is their something funny here and the nut cake turned his head.

BUT it didn't ruin my day. I have had too many good experiences at DISNEY and
I have been around long enough to call you on something if you go at me. I try my hardest not to let someone dictate my day for me. AND will ASK in a moment if necessary where do I see a manager.

In all the years I have been going I have never had to ask that question.

I think in a customer service job - There needs to be customer service. AND YES - Disney is SPECIAL and I expect SPECIAL.

NOW maybe Disney NEEDS to revisit their training - pay or whatever and keep the MAGIC - so they can keep getting as much MONEY as they get.

They never want to be a Universal - buy one day and get the whole year free. OK that's stretching it a bit.

Anyway as I said in the GREAT CM thread.

To ALL THE GOOD CM'S and the ones who may just have had a Bad Day - a time or two - but who truly try and bring the magic ~ THANKS A BUNCH....I will be more friendlier my next and next and next trip and not take you all for granted.

    NOW......

TO you others - BACK TO TRAINING. LOL

I will also make sure I go to City Hall if I see anything MAGIC going on with a CM involving myself or any other family I may notice in the park. I mean MAGIC.
This has really opened my eyes to my responsibility to help keep the MAGIC going also.

I used "leashes" as you call them about 10 years ago to keep a couple of smaller kids to each other.

For me - my mind of peace - and due to alot of sicko's in the world - IT WORKS !!

You do with yours as you wish and I and other Moms and Grands will do as we wish.

I call it love - and you and no one else can judge that. I know when I went home those two were going to be right there with me.

    AGREE..

I think it's as others have said, it's society in general. It's our culture. Young people are not bought up to respect others like they used to be. Now of course I don't mean everyone, but a lot are not.

Now that we have our own kids, we realize A LOT of the time, the kids got that way AFTER they left the house. We still laugh about how naive we used to be.
I never used the child "leash" (don't know what they are really called), because I didn't need to. But some people have kids who are closer together in age, or have more kids and need to keep them safe. How can you judge someone for that, especially since most who do probably don't even have kids.
I feel the same way toward those who complain about strollers at Dland. Disneyland is for kids to enjoy with their parents, that's why Walt built it. Where kids go, strollers go. My youngest is 5, but we may rent a stroller when we are there if needed. And I don't think she's too young for Disneyland.

I am going to have to agree with the,my opinion, overall flavour of the thread. There are many factors as to why the CM may be rude. But shouldn't we as guests try cut them some slack? Now if the rudeness is over the top, rolling eyes and exagerated (sp?) sighs, then yes do what one always doe when receiving less that stellar service. Talk to the manager. I n this case go to City Hall. I have learned that is where one goes to voice praise and villification.

As someone who has spent most of their professional life working with the public, we as guests need to let the managemnt know what is going on. Sometimes the activites that we do not like happen when the Mngmt is no where to be seen, conversely the truly wonderful magical moments that we cherish and hold to our hearts are also needed to be conveyed to upper Mngmt.

I am sorry that the OP had such a bad experience, but if nothing else I have learned from this thread where to go with praise and criticism.

I am happy to see on this thread that so many people have not ever had a bad experience with a CM. Our good encounters far outweigh the bad so I count my blessings.

Its a fine line we all walk and we all need to think before we speak and treat others as we want to be trated. JMHO
