Yes. And please don't ask me how I know this.

My favorite Disneyland myth: Walt Disney's cryogenically suspended body is carefully stored in the icy caverns under Pirates of the Caribbean.

Better look here (and click for the photo) before determining whether it's REALLY an actual half-court set-up. Sure looks like it to me:

It's my favorite because it was VERY prevalent in the late 60's/early 70's, and virtually every kid at my school knew it as "fact." Quite a few claimed to have RIDDEN the (non-existant) earlier version.

This myth was given life by the fact that the exterior building was built in 1963, but the ride didn't open till 1969.

Yep, the article confirms that it's there and that it's not the size of an actual half-court. It's not as big as a regulation half court. If you've ever been in there you'd have seen how small it really is...

We must be about the same age. My friend Steve SWORE he had been on the previous version, and as he described it, it was truly terrifying (although as I got older I also realized it was completely unbelievable that riders would, for example, fall through trap doors).

Awesome memory to bring back, dabob!

To be honest, I didn't have time to read the page today and just clicked on the photo. I'd seen it before, but didn't remember the stuff about it not being a regulation half-court. :)

This one, according to Rod Miller, is true. Rod knew the kid.

Apparently, he was kicked out of his parents' house for coming out as gay. He worked at Disneyland at the time, so he decided to live there as well.

Someone caught him when they saw a light on in a window after the park was closed. He was fired shortly thereafter.

Rod said he saw the guy a couple of years ago and said he has become very successful and is doing well for himself.

This is almost certainly based on Arthur, an actual man who spent hours every day at Disneyland. I remember him well from the early 90s. He is also mentioned in David Koenig's "Mouse Tales."

Arthur had a mild mental disability, and spent the last 22 years of his life (1970-92) at Disneyland every afternoon and evening. He believed it was his job to pick up lost items and take them to lost and found. He was NOT a member of the Disney family, or a former cast member. But he was real.

He smiled and said (classic quote) "Oh yes, there has been quite a few cats living here in Disneyland for quite some time. We find they can control our other population." There's no better way to tell us DL has a serious rat problem. lol this CM had the only right answer to our question!
