Conservative Christians/Republicans have been eating that stuff up."

The Hilton/Prejean dust up was a Miss USA affair. The Limbaugh announcement is about Miss America - two totally different institutions.

Miss USA is a Donald Trump property. And it's been odd to see it overtake Miss America over the years as the 'pageant of record'.

All of these weird contortions that Miss America has been going through are a direct response to Trump's success in promoting his own brand of beauty pageant. Remarkable considering the longevity and history behind the original Miss America pageant.

CMT had it and apparently its ratings were low enough they gave it up and now TLC, of all stations, (the Learning Channel??) has it. And it's in January - not exactly "bathing beauty" weather.

(I learned once on a trip to Atlantic City that it was held in September originally because the A.C. fathers wanted to extend the summer season into mid-September, and dreamed this up as a way to get people to not just depart en masse after Labor Day.)

I think Inspector is right - MAO is desperate for ratings now, and even though the Prejean thing was Miss USA, most people don't know the difference, and they're probably hoping conservatives will think of beauty pageants as bastions of "traditional values" (which many feminists would probably say they are, not in a good way) and/or create controversy with Limbaugh as a way to get SOMEONE to tune in again.

Wait. There's a "Miss USA" AND a "Miss America" pageant?! WTF?! Geez. I guess I haven't paid enough attention to TV-broadcast Hooters-like T&A spectaculars that advertise themselves as "scholarship competitions."

But what would you expect? I'm gay. I'm genetically/spiritually/politically inferior. I am, sadly, incapable of understanding how parading around in a tight-fitting bathing suits brings glory to Jesus.

Call him whatever you want, but he's obviously a powerful and influential and important figure in the Republican party, entertainer or not.

Well I'm not entirely sure of your position on Christianity or if you consider yourself a Christian at all, but if so I'd say you're one of the kindest, most generous, most Christian type of person I've ever had the pleasure of knowing.

And if "God" doesn't see it that way, we can just hang out in Hell together and talk about how wrong the Universe really is. :)
