(I learned once on a trip to Atlantic City that it was held in September originally because the A.C. fathers wanted to extend the summer season into mid-September, and dreamed this up as a way to get people to not just depart en masse after Labor Day.) I think Inspector is right - MAO is desperate for ratings now, and even though the Prejean thing was Miss USA, most people don't know the difference, and they're probably hoping conservatives will think of beauty pageants as bastions of "traditional values" (which many feminists would probably say they are, not in a good way) and/or create controversy with Limbaugh as a way to get SOMEONE to tune in again.
