Sam worked with Vic at the opening of the park and then in Burbank and Glendale for a while. I believe they worked together on planning for WDW too. Sam told me my grandfather was a good man, but a pain in the you-know-what to work for, I regret not having a sit down chat with Sam and getting all the stories out of him I could. Sam was inducted into the Disney Legends in 1996. I don't know if he was scheduled for a Window on Main Street at Disneyland (he has one at WDW), but if not, someone should tell current management that it's better late than never.

The ones that appeared while Lincoln told us 'in his own words' about himself.

    Beautifully done.

I had a POC book one day for Marc to sign..Sam noticed it .. and told me he did the inside map. They were gonna use it for bags in New Orleans Square..
(remember the Cool Gold ones with the Redhead on it ?) and
put it inside the book instead !
The Euro Disney map was half-way done, when Sam had a heart attack.. He expected someone else to finish it .. and "Upstairs" wanted him to get well..and complete it ! No One
    touched it but him !!
They got him out of retirement to do it .. and the best medicine around was to have it waiting for him to complete !
    Besides Talent .. Disney people
had "Class" ... Even today ...
Bob Gurr .. Alice Davis and others .. still have that "Something" that is missing in a-lot of people today..
The Rainbows are going to be a little brighter .. and Sunsets
a-little stronger .. with these Great Disney artists .. moving
    on !
Sam .. you were the Best !

... not to mention on Main Street!

Many Disney Legends and Imagineers, who've made significant contributions to Disneyland, still have not been honored with Main St. Windows, including Bob Gurr and Alice Davis, not to mention Mary Blair and, sadly, Sam McKim.

Mary Blair and now Sam McKim will never be able to attend their Main St. Window Ceremonies in DL. And I'd hate to see the same fate befall Bob Gurr and Alice Davis, as it did for Alice's late husband, Marc, whose Window was awarded posthumously.

Too bad a portion of the DL History Exhibit budget couldn't be used to rectify these oversights, before the 50th. This seems like a no-brainer in my book. How many more do we have to say farewell to, before it's too late?

I was just talking about Disney legends at lunch today with someone else from the boards, and had no clue about Sam McKim's passing. Here we are yet again with a Disney legend who will not get to join us for DL's 50th anniversary, but who will be with us in spirit.

    Roger.
