Perhaps if I had gotten a freshly prepared meal maybe it would taste better, but I think they try to move so many people in and out of the place that they premake most of their menu items. Thus I ended up with rubber chicken with a skin of sauce over it last time.

That is an American thing. I remember when I firt came back to the Us being puzzled when an unrequested basket of chips was plopped down in front of me. Then I looked at the menu and wondered "what's this?" : burritos, chimichangas. I also recalled wondering: what's with the shredded lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream?

I thought from my own experience, as well as reading the reviews, that it was pretty questionable that the chips served at San Angel were Tostitos (or any other bagged chip). I guess we won't know for sure unless we get a response from a CM who works there.
Originally Posted By fkurucz <<Those who claimed experience with "real Mexican" food seemed to like it.>> Yup. If your idea of good Mexican food is what they serve at El Torito, Chi-Chis (that choice of name blows me away, it would be akin to naming a restaurant "Boobs" or some other colloquialism for a woman's chest) or Acapulco, then you won't like San Angel Inn. And San Angel has become dumbed down (as has happened to other Epcot eateries). I can only imagine how people would react if it was 100% authentic. That said, they do have trouble executing at times. I found their tacos al pastor to be poor.
Originally Posted By fkurucz <<3) Food not what they expected / bland>> Not all Mexican food is chili-pepper spicy. In fact, most real Mexican dishes are not. Just as most Mexican dishes are NOT wrapped in corn or flour tortilla.

Secondly, I dined there last year. First time since 2001 (when chips and salsa were both freshly made in house). I know what I consumed. Tostitos brand chips (made by Frito Lay) with their brand jar salsa. I know by look, texture and taste ... not to mention at the same time, the EXACT same chips and salsa suddenly became on sale in the plaza marketplace. It was kind of obvious. Now, maybe they got complaints and changed things ... I dunno. I do know I was so insulted by the fact a 'fine' dining location would do something so cheap and tacky that I haven't been back.
