I applaud Disney for doing something a little bit different with their fourth park. The Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney/MGM all deal with the same attraction-style rides whose premise is to submerse the guest into a fantasy or thrill-inducing experience. The animal encounters at Animal Kingdom aim to embrace the natural world (or as close to it as one can get in central Florida) and teach the guest a little about who we share our world with.

In my opinion, I think that people who fail to enjoy these experiences (not that one should be required to do so) view the world as a "human-habitat." It is a simple fact that humans have drastically changed the world environment and have wreaked havoc on ecosystems around the globe. I think the Animal Kingdom (and especially the animal encounters) attempt to move individuals away from this human-centered view of the world and demonstrate the fact that we play a small part in this "circle of life."

In another thread someone asked what the most "fun" attractions were at each park. In the Magic Kingdom I love Splash Mountain, Test Track wins at Epcot, Tower of Terror takes first at Disney/MGM. When it comes to the Animal Kingdom, Kilimanjaro Safari wins hands-down. Something about seeing a three-ton elephant knock over a tree or a cheetah that could outrun a car is awe-inspiring.

Please don't misunderstand me, I am not saying that every individual should enjoy the animal encounters, I just believe that Disney did a wonderful job in giving Walt Disney World something other than another standard theme park.

(Of course, this is coming from sombody who has gone to Busch Gardens Tampa didn't ride a single roller coaster because he spent all of his times at the animal exhibits.) I feel that the exhibits are just as much of a magical expirience as just about any other attraction of property, just a different kind of magic. However, most people (especialy the avarage brand of Disney guests) don't slow down enough to appriciate them for what they are.

I know the enhibits are not for everyone, but I would like to see Disney continue to do what they set out to do when the built the Animal Kingdom: give an oppertunity for guests to experience BOTH thrilling attractions AND amazing encounters with live animals.

I never said that they did. What I said is that many of the guests who visit animal Kingdom could care less about the animal exhibits. Animal Kingdom is a fantastic park and I feel that most people who go enjoy it immensely. They however like the rides and atmosphere more than the rides.

I think Canada can keep the Circle-Vision going, maybe with a new release. Put Soaring Over into a country without an attraction, like Italy. I'd love to fly over the Italian Alps!

It spoild the illusion of being in a real race!! It had the intentions of being a real adventure but was spoild by all the fakeness!! i was dissapointed!! We were there last summer, and it seemed pretty impressive.

At Sea World, you board a helicoptor [simulator] and zip around the Arctic -- then something suddenly goes wrong and you almost crash etc... I seem to remember diving underwater too...

The queue area was extremely well done -- winding through an Artic dig site -- with actual ice and so forth.

Anyone else make a better comparison?

In Orlando the queue is just standard switchbacks.

And Jim, Stormrider (to me anyway) is really more like star tours (but with more special effects) than wild arctic (which was a cool ride, I liked it). Although the going underwater thing WAS pretty similar, everything going up to that point was more about speed and sfx like star tours than wild arctic's scenery scenes.

Also, Stormrider is the only simulator that doesn't make me sick besides Star Tours. Maybe cause they are more about forward motion or whatever, but I can ride both of them multiple times and feel great.

Body Wars, Back to the Future, and Wild Arctic? *turns green at the thought of those rides*

Plus, a fuse device crashes thorough the celling in a lound bang! Then the wind starts to blow inside the cabin and rain flys in! then the celling panels rip off and dangle!! It is sooo impressive!
