To be quite honest, I have not priced an on property room since then.

Every year at DLP we opt for Dream APs as they include emh. Even though they cost us as a family $450 more than a fantasy pass, we figure emh is worth it. In DLP, we can often do 8-10 attractions in those first 2 hours, then the core hours, we are lucky if we can do the same again. Therefore, emh can seem like a bargain.

That said, I am unlikely to opt for the all star motels.....

I just couldnt pay that much money for the value Resorts seeing as the rooms look not much better than motel 6. I dont need the transportaion because we will have a car this trip.

I for one am grateful that these accomidations are made available to resort guests. The Value resorts are extremely popular and always near capacity. It sure beats sleeping in a tent, in the rain at Ft Wilderness. They are exceptionally well built of solid concrete walls unlike say Saratoga Springs that has sheet rock interior walls. Hotels are built to a higher standard than DVCs regardless of room price.

Also for the week of Christmas, the price of rooms everwhere on property and off property sky rockets. I was pricing a cheap off property ( actually over by Universal ) old motel who's rooms are normally run $39 a night. For the week of Christmas even their rooms run at $100 a night. The cheapest room both on property and off property in the Lake Buena Vista area for the week of Christmas is $125 a night. So, althought room prices on property for that same week may seem high as compared to "other" times during the year, I think we really need to take everything into prospective here.

    Indeed.

A month ago I was at the TDR and paid $AUS190.00 per night for a room at the Hilton(official Disney hotel)across from the parks AND I had a park view room able to see the castle, Splash and Mt Prometheus in TDS. I was EXTREMELY happy with my room and thought it a BARGAIN!

So much for the outrageously expensive Japan hotel rooms, hey?

Those "Official hotels" are good value, wonder how much the equivalent room with that view would have been at the Mira Costa or the Disneyland Hotel!

I have no problems with the Values. I understand why they're there, and think that they fill a very important part of the market, that Disney would otherwise miss out on. I stayed at the All-Star Sports a couple years ago for 10 days, and thought it was nice. I've also paid $170 a night for a hotel and thought it was a pretty good value. However, I just can't see spending that much money for one of those hotels.

I understand that the entire area is booked to capacity that time of year, and they can get away with charging it, but for me it's just not worth it. I'd stay home and go another time when my money has more value (especially since I'd be staying at a Value, where I'm presumably trying to savesome money). Or maybe go somewhere else. I'm visiting my brother and his wife in DC for Christmas this year, and my parents are staying at the swanky hotel across the street (surrounded by embassies) for about $90 a night.

I understand why the Values are there, and appreciate them for it. I also understand that they can (and do) get away with charging that much for them. However, I just can't come up with a situation where it would be worth that much to me, personally, to spend that much to stay there.

I would choose to go then instead. Of course I'm retired and don't have to worry about time off from work, school schedules, etc.
