From what I saw of the Alito hearings, they were nowhere near the "circus act" of the Robert Bork or Clarence Thomas hearings.

Tough questions need to be asked of an applicant for a very tough job. I really don't know why we don't have a tougher hiring process for President that could send the wife of a candidate off in tears.
Both are among the hardest jobs in the world, and both require eminently capable people, so the hiring process should be a tough as possible.
I think Alito acquitted himself well from what I saw of the hearings, but not everyone will always fall in line with what the party in power craves.
Something Beau cannot grasp as he believes his vote for the current administration is a pledge and unbreakable oath of undying loyalty rather than a yes or no on hiring a person for a job.

Go back and re-read that little passage, if it's still around. Your new best friend used the word to describe Kennedy and/or Democrats and I merely told him he ought to know. If anything, I gave him credit for being an expert on the subject. It's why I mostly ignore the guy.

Stop eating the raw quahogs. I think the red tide is setting in.

Yup. Roberts was a very good choice. Impeccable, even. Harriet Miers, if she is remembered at all, will go down as probably the most bizarre choice in the annals of Justice nominations. Alito, unfortunately for him, since he's well qualified (and I don't know how many times I can say that), is the pick Bush put forth in response to clamoring from the extreme right for an in-your-face conservative pick. What's supremely ironic here (pun intended) is arch-conservatives actually WANTED a confrontation about this ppick so they could flex their purported muscles. When they what they asked for, albeit in a very small dose, they start whinig and crying about "smear tactics". Go figure.

It's what the dems do though.. problem for them is that it doesn't work anymore.

They used to get away with trying their smear tactics, but now we see it's just a way to divert the fact that they offer America nothing in the way of ideas.
