It's a cheap way to add more attractions. And with the crowds they're expecting at the park they need all the attractions they can get.

With all of that said, and as fascinating as some of the differences are, I just can't muster much excitement about another magic kingdom park. I'm almost certain I'll never go there.

    >>>Today I’ve got the unofficial final “land” list to share for Shanghai Disneyland. Yesterday we talked about how the ‘hub’ area will be called Gardens of Imagination, but before you enter the Garden you will pass down Mickey Avenue, the name of the official entryway portion of the park taking the place of Main Street USA. Going left to right around the ‘hub’ will be Tomorrowland (yes, they are keeping the name), Toy Story Land, Fantasyland, Treasure Cove and Adventure Isle. The later two will take the place of a traditional “Adventureland” and as previously discussed there will be no Frontierland in this park either.
I’m still working on narrowing down the list of attractions, but I’m told that everything I mentioned yesteday will be in the park, including an all new version of Soarin’. Tomorrowland will will feature a version of the Astro Orbiter / Rocket Jets ride along with the new Tron coaster and Buzz Lightyear ride. Fantasyland is rumored to have some kind of unique replacement for the traditional Tea Cups style ride, and according to the early rumors the Peter Pan’s Flight ride going into Shanghai will be bigger and better than the previous versions to date. The park will also still feature that rumored River Rapids ride (in the Adventure Isle area I believe)… but the Lost World Dinosaurs theme has been dropped in favor of something entirely new it seems. Oh… and there will be no It’s A Small World in the park either, as they are leaving that one to be unique to Hong Kong Disneyland in the region for now. <<<

Maybe it's the same like in Paris. Treasure Cove is the skull rock and Adventure Isle is an seperate island.

I'm just glad WDI dropped the Dinosaur land.

Although I do understand that SDL and HKDL should be different, classic Disney rides like it's a small world should be present in every Magic Kingdom style park.

Since SDL and HKDL should be different, I feel sorry for HKDL that they have the lame Space Mountain version. They should have gotten the DLP version, because SDL will not have a SM and so a much more exciting ride would be more exciting.

For years, they were not even remotely trustworthy, posting any rumor they could find. However, the last 5-or-so years, they've had a pretty good track record, and only seem to post things that they have a lot of confidence in. Since I also followed them in the early years, my vision of them will always be tainted by the bad years, but they're pretty good these days.

No Main Street, no Frontierland, but there will be a Toy Story junkyard? Maybe they will throw in a ToonTown to add to the tackiness.

Probably not. Remember that this is being driven by what the target market's child segment (i.e. mainland Chinese children) responds to. There was that story about Bob Iger watching the parade at HKDL's opening day in 2005, and observing the locals' reactions. When the classic Disney characters went by, there was more or less no reaction. But when the Pixar characters went by, everyone reacted in recognition. That's when he decided that Disney needed to buy Pixar, or so the story goes.

Like it or not, Pixar characters are probably much more popular in mainland China than the Fab Five. It makes total sense to have a Toy Story Land as opposed to a Toontown.

When I was in China in 2010, I didn't see any Pixar-related stuff outside of HKDL. We did, however, see a lot of blackmarket stuff based on the princesses, Pooh, and Mickey & friends. I don't know if that's a good gage for what's "popular", but it should be a pretty decent standard for who is recognizable. Then again, we saw a lot of misspellings like "Cinderel" and "Hreir" (which we could only assume meant "Ariel"), so maybe they really don't know whose in the parade.

You are correct, and both will be full of attractions. The Adventureland areas are huge.

The only thing is, the old HKDL concept art is not what you should expect here.

That sounds really interesting. I can imagine that SDL will be an amazing park.

Will the pirates ride be based on the movies?

What do you mean lame?! The ride itself is nearly the same as DL. But of course, the queue is superior at DL.

Compared to DLP's Space Mountain, the ride is not so exciting. It has no catapult launch, no inversions and no corkscrews.
