With people abusing the system (as we know they do) it's very hard to police. I'd be interested to hear the CM in question's account of this story. I actually wonder if the dreaded term health & safety comes in to this. It could be that Disney are concerned that the man could tip out of the chair and they could be liable as the chair was out of it's agreed rental area or something similar. I do wonder if in these litigious times whether that may have been a factor and therefore pressure is put on CM's to enforce the rules very strictly. I dare say the CM would have been unable to help the man from the chair to the bus if they had wanted to for the same reason!!!

I hope everyone here would agree that was an inappropriate use of Disney characters. But how can Disney crack down on one type of business if it says nothing about another type of business using the characters? Socrates "The unexamined life is not worth living."

Why didn't he have his own chair if he couldn't walk at all? I don't like saying it but I think there is something very fishy with this guy and his family.

That was mentioned several times as well as how was this dealt with before the wheelchair rental location was moved outside the gates. A year ago this person wouldn't have been able to pass beyond the turnstiles with his rental. How would he have gotten to his car then?

It's all about a CM yelling at someone. Now, I wasn't there, so I don't know the tone or anything. But even still, it sounds like the CM could have handled the situation much better.
Originally Posted By danyoung >...how would any handicapped person get from their car to the gate if there are no wheelchair pickups available?< Why is this so hard to understand? The elderly person in question was most likely not glued to his wheelchair, and could walk just fine up to a point. I'm sure it was decided by him and his family early on that a day at DL would be too much for him to experience on his feet, so they rented a wheelchair. The guy could walk just fine early in the day, but not so good later after a full day of park storming. It seems pretty simple to me . . .

Dan I think you may have misunderstood my question. I'm not talking about the guest in the OP. I'm talking about ANY guest with mobility problems. How do they get from their vehicles or hotels to the main gates and vice versa without the aide of a rented wheelchair?

I think most of the chairs rented in Disney parks are for people who are mostly ambulatory in daily life, but can't take the strain of a day's worth of standing and walking that a touring day requires.
