As long as it's not a key character, like the auctioneer or the "redhead", I'd rather they took the character off stage, fixed him, and then brought him back. Those turtles on WDW's Splash that are just floating in air with a spike in their backs instead of on a column of water - now that's disturbing!

Of course, key AA's (Auctioneer, Yeti, Wicked Witch of the West, etc.) on any attraction should be fixed immediately, and no entire scene should ever be 'down' at the same time, but one or two here and there isn't the end of the world. If it can keep the attraction open longer between full-scale refurbs, and in better condition, the minor inconvenience is worth it.
