Surprisingly I find that my tv viewing has become much more selective with the Tivo (Replay). I can really go through schedules on the weekend, and pick and choose what I want to record. Then I look at primetime each evening, and if there's nothing there I just watch whatever I have already recorded. I find that I have to fight sometimes to view enough stuff to keep room open on my hard drive. I mean, I just HATE to erase any good stuff I've recorded!

So..we thought it would be cool to get my Aunt a Tivo for Christmas...she's not too technically inclined so we thought it would be easier for her than a VCR.

All is good, except...her condo building has a security camera in the lobby which she could pick up on her cable prior to the Tivo. That doesn't seem to work anymore.

Anyone know anything about close circuit TV & Tivo? Is there any way to wire it up and still get her security channel? Thanks.

Turns out that she just needs to type in the channel manually as it's in the high digits (149?) so that seems to work OK.

Another question...the whole reason we got the thing for her is she likes to travel, and she likes soap operas, so we thought this would save her from missing anything. But she's suspended her cable in anticipation of her trip.

Is there anything keeping me from moving the Tivo to my place while she's out of town? (Then I could edjucate myself, and be better prepped to answer her questions. I could also tape her shows for her.

    Thanks again for the help.

As to taking the unit to your place, there is a certain level of interactivity between Tivo and their central computers. This communication takes place either over a phone line or over the internet. On my system (a Replay), my home unit calls into central every night at around 4am or so to update schedules and program information. I'm not sure if this process would continue to work if you moved the unit to another location. I'd at least make sure that it's hooked up the same way (with a phone line or internet hookup), and give it a shot.
