Adding charcaters won't make it more entertaining, that's for sure. <<I druelled>> Must be an English thing. In America, we drool.

Besides dumbing down the experience for adults, it's a bad thing because it makes every experience - from Tomorrowland to Paradise Pier - the same or similar. Also, as has been pointed out at least 100 times now, these rides are being plopped down in thematic realms where they don't belong.

I totally agree, which is why my interest in Disney parks has waned in recent years.

The subs were modeled and named after atomic submarines of the United States Navy." Subs that existed in the present. If Disney tried to pull this off today with the sort of rationalization being used here, many of the hardcore purists would be whining and moaning. But the subs broke the theme. Not a lot, and I'm not much bothered by it, but even Walt wasn't all the pure when it came to theming.

What's really bad, is that a lot of the really great Tomorrowland attractions were way before my time, and when I came to Disneyland for the first time, the only rides they had were Autopia, Space Mountain, Star Tours, Submarine Voyage (before it got wrecked), the Peoplemover, and the Rocket Jets. I would have loved to have seen Adventure Through Inner Space and Rocket to the Moon.

Yeah, like others have said, having futuristic attractions can still happen, its just there would have to be a lot of updating and lets face it, the days of a few new attractions every year are long gone. I think the idea of edutainment as others have said is whats really dead the more I think about it. TL was considered more about learning about the world, whats around us and whats to come vs the other areas of the park that was pushed into the past or based on fantasy, both which doesnt require constant updating to keep their themes alive. I mean, this isnt a shock, look at Epcot. Future world was one grand TL basically and while it still hold true some of its original intent, much of that place has been gone from learning and discovery to more thrill rides and toons. I didnt visit WDW until the first time 10 years ago and so stuff like Horizons, Imaginarium, WoM, the original Energy ride and others were already gone although I generally like the stuff that is there now, I have a feeling I wouldve loved the older stuff. Anyway, I think thats the issue here and as I and another poster pointed, TL '98 DID try to bring a little more of the edutainment aspects back a little bit, but it was so illconcieved it fell flat on its face. Innoventions is still there but its been a light attended dud since it first came around. Again, I think TL is basically dead, at least the one that was originally concieved. Its really just a land of movie tie ins and superfiscial sci fi themes like Buzz now. And since EVERY TL has now gone this path basically, this seems to be the mandate of the WDC in general. We should expect more Pixar and less Rocket to the Moon attractions . And sadly this use to be my favorite land . It was always the first land me and my family would hit and usually spend the most time in since it had the most attractions. The kinetic energy of the place with all the transportation flying around everywhere was soo cool. They are trying to get that back, but its simply not the same when it was the monorail, people movers, skyway, autopia, submaries and motorboats all moving around. Now I think its the west side of the park with NOS, AL and Critter Country I like spending lots of time in. I go to TL for SM, Buzz and Nemo and if the lines arent to bad, Autopia and thats basically it.

A day at Disneyland, and then it felt like a whole "extra" theme park within a park. Since the theme is not what it once was, I'd be fine with a name change. PixarSpace. ; )

And yeah, not a lot of Pixar yet (ironically, its the only two Pixar attractions in the entire park....both in TL, who wouldve thought lol) but I'm guessing more will be coming, if not TL, then DL in general. But DL has been spared the onslaught of Pixar mania because DCA has them all . I'm surprised not every Pixar attraction doesnt have 'property of DCA' when they are being concieved now. And I wouldnt hold my breath about Buzz and Nemo leaving anytime soon since they are both very popular attractions there. Hell Buzz is now in every TL in every MK park around the world. Its almost like Space Mountain now, its a staple of TL I guess. And for the record, I really like Nemo, its a cute ride . It simply doesnt belong in TL thats all. Frankly I dont understand why they just dont rezone that area of the park and include it in FL since it borders it anyway? It doesnt REALLY belong there either when you think about it, but it still fits in a hell of a lot better then TL. Besides, its right next to Matterhorn and to this day I'm not sure how that fits in as well lol.

Originally Posted By WorldDisney ^^Yeah, that was my point with my OP, futurism is simply dead there, therefore the title now seems misleading. TL is squarely in the present these days with a few sci fi attractions to keep the concept and name somewhat credible, but the park has skewed so far away from its origins now, its not even CLOSE to the theme that was intended for it. When the only thing that you can think of that hints at the future based in science fact are the rockets, you got problems .

The same could work fine in DCA, either as part of the Hollywood Backlot area or as it's own mini-land (Pixar is after all a Califorian based company), but instead of putting even that much thought in the attractions are plonked down in random places with VERY tenuous themes. Tomorrowland is not a dead concept it just takes a level of effort I'm not sure anyone has right now!!!
