I did notice that there were quite a few young kids in the theater when I saw "Shrek the Third" and I really wondered who all those parents had missed the first two films. These movies have always seemed to be pretty clearly aimed at teens or older. -Jeff

So, this wasn't new territory or a new low. Kids have been laughing at this for centuries. The humor in Shrek is a mixed bag that tries to offer something for various age groups. The fart/potty gags and jokes are assumed to be targeted for the younger set and the subtle sexual references are assumed to be targeted to the teens and adults. I thought Shrek 1 and 2 did a good job of creating humor for both these target groups without being too offensive to either. Shrek 3 seemed to have lost that touch, offending me several times (potty, projectile vomit and other bodily excrements) and humoring me very little. Actually, there were only 3 jokes that made me laugh out loud, and several points in the film where I decided a quick nap would be more enjoyable. I Totally LOVED Shrek 1 and 2 (and still enjoy re-watching these films on DVD). However, I was really disappointed with the lack of creative humor in Shrek 3. Get rid of Timberlake character and add more cat and donkey.

I don't think SeanYoda cared for it that much either but I'm glad we got to see it. Definitely NOT a keeper. I don't mind the Disney humor.. I like to think I have a sense of humor.. but gas & vomit gags do not make me laugh so much.

I might be seeing the third one next week, I'll be curious to see what I think of it.

There were a few funny moments (when Puss as Donkey tries to do his 'cute eyes' routine and it backfires), but, overall, pretty ho-hum, and...GROSS! I truly hated the vomit and flatulence jokes. They were just NOT funny. The first two films were very funny in how they did their satire. Here, it was the same old routines, but much less funny. As I said, it did have some funny moments, but, they were definitely fewer and further between. I'd grade it a C- overall.
