I don't think I could possibly have anything to do with a relative who worked for WalMart because I understand what they are doing to the American worker. <<I personally don't shop Walmart but I will coming very soon since they are building one about two minutes from where I live...And you know what the real kicker is? But even if it were true, I still would't shop there. What did Disney do wrong?>> No, it wasn't a riddle. It was an invitation for you to add some substance to your swipe at WDW. Many bars across the country promote an environment of rowdiness and serve alcohol without regard to the level of intoxication of the patrons. Those places are clearly creating a situation that fosters obnoxious drunken behavior. Carnival Cruise Lines used to be famous for encouraging and enabling underage patrons to drink to excess. Predictably, obnoxious drunken behavior ensued. Some crowds are more testoterone-powered and less contained by certain norms than others. There is much more likely to be obnoxious drunken behavior and assault at a frat party, a rap concert, or a sporting event than at, say, a garden show or a Sarah MacLaughlin concert. If WDW management had created any of the above situations in the MK, I would agree easily that they contributed to the obnoxious drunken behavior of the idiots about whom this thread was started. But, as far as I know, WDW doesn't supply alcohol to minors, doesn't encourage its consumption in the MK, and wasn't promoting any beer blast or testosterone festival on the day of the incident. So, Spirit, how did WDW contribute to this event? What did you mean by "When you cater to a certain demogrpahic, you really shouldn't be all that surprised when they act according to form"?

Personally, I think any problems, like these brawling kids, has more to do with the times we live in, than who is being "invited" to visit. It's kinda like a comparison of how people used to dress when going to DL in the 50's, and how they dress today.

They just attract flack because they are the largest. Just like Burger King and Wendy's put out junk food every bit as un-nutritious as McDonalds, but McDonalds takes all the criticism because they are largest. Most companies in America today will do whatever it takes to fatten the bottom line. If that involves stepping over the edge every once in a while, oh well. Best Buy, the nation's largest electronics retailer, has been accused of deceiving in-store shoppers with a phony web-site. It LOOKS exactly like the one everyone sees at home but the prices are higher. If a customer says they saw it priced lower on the web the sales guy fires up the phony site and shows the customer they are 'wrong'. I brought a printout of one of one of their web pages once when I went shopping and they admitted those prices were only available over the net -- not in store. Which is fine; a lot of retailers do that. But why try to deceive your customers? Well, that's OK. We'll scratch Best Buy off the list. We'll buy our electronics stuff from Circuit City. Oops... can't do that either. They are complete jerks to their employees. They fired all their top paid sales guys and made them reapply for the same job at lower pay. Well geez... there goes Best Buy and Circuit City; where am I supposed to get my TV now? Oh I know, Wal-Mart!! Oops... maybe not. Perhaps I just won't watch TV. Yes, Wal-Mart engages in business practices that while legal are probably unethical. Welcome to the real world, so does everyone else. Wal-Mart takes the heat for two reasons: 1) They are the biggest. 2) Snobbery. It is easy to take a cheap shot at people without a lot of money. Somehow the un-married mother struggling to feed a family on the $6.15 per hour she makes at Wal-Mart is a BAD person because she shops there, while the Wal-Mart regional manager who makes enough money by screwing his employees that he doesn't need to shop there is a GOOD person. Right. The whole Wal-Mart thing is a cheap and easy shot. It is the argument thrown out by those too lazy to come up with a real argument. I'm tired of it also.

Concentrating all of your anger on one retailer ignores the fact that Corporate American in general is out to benefit their officers and shareholders at the expense of their employees and customers. That is where the anger should be directed, not at one specific retailer just because it is large.

Of the abusers of unpaid overtime / illiegal aliens / abuse of benefits for employees they are the acme.....and that is very well documented. I agree that many corporations go over the line, even those we tend to think of in high esteem. But one has to start somewhere and why not start with the poster child ? So while I agree they are not the only ones - they are by far the worst - and that has nothing to do with who shops there -- those are completely separate issues. I have done enough study and spent enough time in high level HR sessions in counsels in Washington to feel very comfortable that Wal Mart deserves all the heat they get and more.

Some may call this supply and demand - I calso call it predatory use of resources - with NO regard for the public. I see so many talk about how some poor get items there to save money - that is NOT Walmarts intent. it is to control the marketplace completely - any benefot anyone gets along the way is short lived.
