CDD, that is an excellent question.

The grassroots answer would be, vote with your wallets WITHIN Disney if you want that particular place to improve (obviously, boycotting entirely would only amount to further cost cutting all the way down to 6-Flags or possibly even bankruptcy).

So, say you (and that would be a grassroots "you", you'd have to have the numbers behind you), decided to only patronize the one or two parks which are cutting costs the least. Eventually, that would sink in to the suits.

And it would have to be organized. If, for example, Epcot suddenly dropped in quality while the Magic Kingdom surpassed or caught up, everyone would have to collectively move to the MK.

Quality will out DOES work sometimes. For example, the OLC in Tokyo was VERY nervous about spending a huge sum of money on their Winny the Pooh ride, but as it turned out they got record numbers in the years after it opened thanks ENTIRELY (or mostly, anyway) to the opening of that very special, very expensive ride. And, as a result, they spent pretty liberally on the parks for a time. However, of course time and circumstances do intrude and now they're on a cost cutting binge but that's sort of another story.

Anyway, I'm not saying it would work...but people are asking for solutions and that's a possible angle. If, using WDW as a microcosm, the park that spent most got by far the most visitors and the others suffered greatly..I assure you things would change overall. But of course vice-versa is true as well ;)

But I do not know if it will work and am reconsidering my tactics. I have also tried to apply to Disney to directly do something about it, but so far, not one interview (which surprises me as in other roles I have always gotten the roles I have wanted with a better remuneration package than Disney would offer - but I am willing to take a pay and lifestyle cut to do it).

Sadly, the whole world seems to be going into a quality toilet (several of my kids' christmas presents have already broken with normal play). So I am trying to seek out new interests and have been reconsidering the amount of time I spend on the web re Disney. I did not get one Disney gift for Christmas (unless you count Scrubs on DVD) and that made me quite happy.

It is not the company I fell in love with. Very little of what I loved remains. So I have to decide - do I change, do I try to change the company (of which I have little power) or do I move away all together.

Instead of counting down to a Disney trip, I am not on the count down to my trip to Spain in just over 6 weeks. The mouse will not be getting my money. Instead the Alhambra of Grenada, Gibralter, Ronda, maybe Morocco or Seville will be. And Marriott will be taking the lion's share (they still offer quality). I am quite sad in a way. If Disney still offered the quality, well then we would be going to WDW. But sadly the history, service and hospitality has more to offer.

When devising performance evaluations and also sadly looking at lay offs, roles are a key part of the analysis. Sadly after awing 800 posts in a role I had a few years ago, and advising 123 organisations on this stuff, I'd rather not think all we are is a group of players. Or maybe we are?

What the HECK! I can't hold it inside any longer. Spirit is really ELVIS! He faked his own death to escape the constant drain on him from fan worship He has decided to live a quiet, private life as a Disney critic. I think we should all respect his wishes. HONESTLY!!!

Shhh ... you shouldn't talk about our Constitution or how it was broken in order to protect us from the 'evildoers' ... hopefully, the next Prez will respect the document more than the last one did!

Boycotts, be they personal or mass, don't work against TWDC.

You only wind up hurting yourself ... I still love WDW ... just not like I once did. And I guess the fact I am spending far less money there kinda shows that.

But I enjoy it, and live too close, to just say 'screw it, I am staying away until they get some real caring, visionary leaders there.'

It is a shame that you've lost friends over your feelings, but I tend to think they weren't true friends to begin with because a difference in opinion over the way Disney runs its business surely is a very lame reason to end a friendship.

Well, I hate to toss a cold bucket of Gatorade on you, but TWDC isn't looking for people like you ... or me. They don't want folks who are going to tell them what they are doing wrong, even if it could result in a much healthier bottom line down the line.

I have found that if you talk to the typical P&R exec and tell them eight things they do right and two they don't, all they'll remember is you're the dude who told them about the two things they suck at. And if you were stupid enough to tell them how to fix it, they'll just steal your idea and passs it off as their own.

    Just a nest of vipers.

Well ... you know my feelings on this very well. You can overdo the Disney online activities (and I have been guilty myself ... you should see me with the kool-aid kiddies on another magical site) ... but I think I went four months in 2008 with zero Disney posts on any site and that was likely a very good thing.

By the same token, I do believe I have real friends here and enjoy talking, bantering, arguing, and laughing with them.

You just need a happy medium.

But if you're looking for happy Disney news, I think you're going to not be fine in 2009!

That's not entirely a bad thing.

If I go back 15 years ago, WDW got almost ALL of my vacation/travel dollars. Now ... annually, they likely get less than 25% most years. And it's not all the Four Parks: One Stale World deal either ... it's the fact I want to see more of my country and of my planet. I went eight months without driving 200 miles to use my AP and didn't feel like I was missing out ... when you're taking transatlantic cruises, spending a summer in China at one of the most amazing times in its modern history or hiking in Sequoia National Park (and let's not leave out my multiple visits to DLR and my first visit to HKDL too!) it's very hard to feel like you're missing out by not being at WDW.

Even now with deals at their best, I'm opting to head to Las Vegas instead of WDW.

It's not like I won't be at WDW ... hell, I'll likely be there before winter turns to spring. But while it was growing stale and tired, I was growing as a spirit who wants to see and experience more of the world ... and oh yeah, I'm going to FINALLY see TDR in 2009 too! :)

Just one of MANY bizarre instances that made up the tapestry of my life in 2008!

And you were so lucky to be part of that one too! ;-)

Which war did we grant bail to enemy combatants in?
Now back to our regularly scheduled program.

I'm 100% sure you are correct. It opened in spring of '03.

It was approved in either '98 or '99 and work commenced shortly after.
    <

the opening was also delayed by the shuttle accident and press was it not ?

Agreed and a lot of it is a pain to put together...

I will say I do like IKEA but all the stuff I have bought is storage and accents not furniture or long lasting in any sense.. I do like their shadow box frames (and cinnamon rolls...)

So today was day 1 of the outsourced business and package centers for my resort (we are 4 of 5 resorts to switch).. It will be an interesting change to say the least- in some ways good and others not so good but only time will see how the guests react... (but I will say their business center is a LOT prettier than our was..)

The next Prez was actually a professor of Constitutional law in a law school, among other things. So, I suspect that he will know a thing or two about the subject beyond what his AG tells him to believe.

Your threads generate the most conversation and I'm just now starting to get when your serious and when your kidding around. Took me awhile though. Although I can't post from work I can read from there so days when nobody posts are really disappointing. I read at work and then come home to post. That's why I always post late at night and never get to have live dialogue like you guys do. Your sometimes controversial opinions always generate the most interesting dialogue.
