Hi MPierce, we made out ok. We couldn't come back for about a week because the lack of electricity screwed up the sewer system; they were asking people not to shower, wash dishes or clothes or flush the toilet, so we stayed in Arkansas from Sunday the 31st through this past Saturday. I don't think the lights even went out at my place though, because I didn't have to reset any of my digital clocks. Property-wise, we made out well.

Unfortunately, the 14 hour drive to Arkansas gave my mom a clot in her leg, and she's spending tonight in the hospital getting it taken care of. I actually just got home from there. She's going to be fine, but I can't help but worry because I just don't like my mom being in the hospital, you know? She's in good spirits but I'm taking tomorrow off so I can keep an eye on her and hopefully take her home. The doctor said he would probably only have to keep her overnight. I'm just worried and will feel better when she's at home on her couch!

My sister lives just outside Miami. I think it was Andrew, some years ago. The hurricane took part of her roof off, lifted the piano out of her living room and dumped it in her pool!

Oh, I know. A very good friend of mine lost her mom to a blood clot. It traveled to her lungs and killed her. She had it for week - had I suspected it was a blood clot, she would've gone to the emergency room in Arkansas that night. I'm so glad she got it taken care of in time - my mom is my best friend and I don't know what I'd do without her.

You know what the funny thing was, though? Yesterday in the local paper there was an article about people getting dangerous blood clots due to contraflow, which is how she got hers! Dangerous clots can develop in any adult who sits for hours on end - people who take transatlantic flights or long car trips are at risk. It's important to get up and walk around every few hours.

^^^^^I meant my mom had her blood clot for a week - not my mom's friend. I'm not sure how long she had her clot beforehand - I don't even think her family knows how long she had it.
