We try to be pretty tolerant and fair and give several chances. And we also have to take into account the things that happen that aren't public (and I'm not speaking specifically of this case).

I hate to sound like I'm whining here, but my mods do, I think, a very good job and I want to stick up for them. We do everything we can to keep as many people as possible a part of the community. That doesn't only mean not banning people. That also means trying to create an environment where people feel welcome and don't choose to leave.

I understand the confusion and criticism, I really do. I've been on both sides of the fence and understand the frustration a lot of you feel about this and many of the things that happen here. And I even appreciate the criticism because it helps me do my job better. But at the same time, I did, this time, want to give a bit of my side of the story if for no other reason than to stick up for the LP mods and the job they do that I'm extremely happy with.

    Thanks for listening.

    Doobie.

As I said before, we never discuss specifics. If you know him you can talk to him about it but we're not going to talk about what happens privately.

If that is, in fact, the case, then I think that's very unfortunate.

If the trouble was in World Events, why not just ban him from World Events?

Just over the past year or so I've watched you slowly changing into a "gentler and kinder" Jon. I've learned at times that you can be a force of nature, sometimes a nourishing gentle rain and sometimes a storm that may leave a little destruction in its path. Most of the time there was much more good than bad. You've always been kind to me and treated me with respect and I hope I've done the same for you. I'll miss your many kindnesses, your knowledge of the park and that wicked sense of humor. I'll also miss the obvious love that showed when you posted about "the kid". I know I'm not alone when I say you'll be missed. LP may be a little bit more tranquil but we'll have lost something special too. No matter what, some of us consider you family and have a deep affection for you. I hope you'll be allowed to come back some day.

However, although I agree that jonvn could be a little much sometimes in the other topics, he really added a lot of humour to LP and I am another one of those people who are going to miss him!

Some have fallen from heated battle(TDLFAN, Spirit),

other good soldiers have gone MIA/AWOL(Tom Sawyer, DVCdad),

a select few have been, in my opinion, unfairly charged with war crimes and ultimately sent given a dishonorable discharges(Beaumandy, cape cod joe)

and still others are suffering from shell shock and are "5150"(GrannyAnn).

I am disappointed because I wanted jonvn to have been found not guilty at his court-martial. After all he was doing what a well trained soldier does.... fight. He never cowered in the face of extreme opposition and courageously(or recklessly) led many charges in the face of certain death(DCA, tattoos, camouflage attire).

Jonvn's war strategy, simultaneously, reminded me of both Gen. USS Grant's and Gen. R. Lee's at Petersburg and Cold Harbor in Virginia.

He was General Lee-like when he would dig in deep and not budge one inch no matter what kind od shelling he took. So I, too, call jonvn "the King of Spades" just like the name bestowed on Gen. Lee for his trench digging during the 1864 campaigns and holding out for the long haul.

Myabe he read Gen. USS Grant's playbook too because he would send wave after wave of attacks creating mass casualties..... But as Lincoln said "I like this man, he fights"

Apparently the hassle of having to deal with that is what motivated the management to kick Jon out, regardless of the fact that he never violated the community standards in his posts.

Unless they were recently revised to ask people to refrain from giving their opinion on religion, I mean. That is pretty much the main thing that Jon argued about vehemently and what ticked people off.

And interestingly, many of those people are chiming on here happily talking about how they won't miss him.

    Mission accomplished, guys.

    How pathetic!

I, too, noted that it was largely people of faith who were disinclined to express either support for this poster or mystification over the reason this poster may have been banned. It is the case that whenever the subject of religion, any religion, was being discussed, the poster would interject opinions that were uniformly intolerant, unkind, and dismissive. Some of us attempted on more than one occassion to introduce the notion that it is possible to disagree without being disagreeable. These entreaties very obviously fell on deaf ears.

I have no idea why he has been banned, nor have I made any inquiries. It must be assumed that there are specific reasons, and that they are not being shared. While that leaves me just as baffled as any of you, it also leaves me satisfied.

And I do feel that more than once things went beyond opinion and became personal and in the interests of full disclosure I did report a thread to the mods last year of which Jon was a major part - not because I sided with any of the parties in question (I'd given up posting by that point), but because I felt the topic had veered rediculously off topic, had degenerated in to pettiness and really needed to be closed down as it was in the WDW section and could put off new members.

I am as sad to see Jon go as I would be any other poster and he genuinely had some important things to say, but I won't miss the way he sometimes said them.

Jon, if you get the chance to read this please know that I don't feel anything negative towards you (I don't know you well enough) and often we agreed, but I go genuinely see how others may have been offended to the point where they would have complained.
