I don't believe most patrons are being cheap.

They have been hammered by the economy and have to cut back.

But Disney's never-ending cycle of discounting has played a role. If every year you come to WDW you get free dining or three free nights then you'll come to expect it.

This has been something I've been talking about for years as Disney pushed toward build-out of the Florida property. There was a time when you had to make reservations a year or more in advance and pay rack rate to stay at WDW.

I have spent hundreds of nights on property in the last decade and have yet to pay rack. Often my discounts have been in the 35-60% range. Disney has conditioned me to expect discounts. I'm not the only one.

<<I don't hear anyone insisting that Disney charge full price for everything and asking them to get rid of all the giveaways and promotions like room discounts, dining plans, etc.>>

    I have. Often.

BUT with the caveat that Disney offer the same quality I came to expect for full price (and even discounted). They can't seem to do that.

No way on the onboard sound.

Rest assured, if it were coming Disney would have let people know a long time ago.

This is largely a cleaning, rebuilding of track and asbestos removal. I wouldn't expect anything more.

agree- but it is a chicken / egg argument. The general populace wants " WalMart 'roll back ' pricing on everything but then doesn't want WalMart quality. The equation doesn't work.

I am with you in that I would rather pay for the quality - even if it means I go less often - but I do believe we are in the minority

I am going to have to disagree there are plenty of companies that offer great discounts for their customers but still maintain high quality and a commitment to excellence.

I tried to think of one and could not

places I can think of with quality have had significant price increases - and most never got into discounting --

Even with the discounts a WDW vacation is not cheap by any means.

If I had to cut back how often I go, then Disney would get less money overall from me because there is only so much money I will spend on a single vacation. If Disney prices me out then I would just do something different. Not everyone in my family is a Disney freak and we aren't going and dropping that kind of dough unless we both agree that we can afford it.

btw- I think Wendy's has a better chicken sandwhich - I thought the soup was good but sure as hell not cheap for the amount you got.

So I'm not buying these as comparatives to a WDW experience that is supposed to be first rate.

of course - just my opinion..

give me a hotel chain - resort / theme park - entertainment venue...something comparable. Any entertainment experience.

I think the fact that I can get 10 Whie Castle Sliders for $3.60 a good deal- but I wouldn't compare it to WDW either,

To do that they would need to place speakers close to the track, and this would give a "pumping" effect where the closer you get to the speakers the louder it will be then as you pass them it will fade until you approach the next set of speakers. I think I would prefer just filling the building with ambient/generic music.

That's probably even more complicated for a roller coaster, but would be an interesting solution to the extra weight added by onboard computers. I really doubt they'll do it, but it would synch the music up with the ride, and be specific for each car on the track.

If they just used general ambient music, I think they would have some major acoustical problems, since they would need to have loud speakers to deal with the variety of places that the cars go, but that seems like a very echo-ey space too.

Did it have a pin code Bobbelee?

Let me tell you a story. Several years back I was on the phone setting up our WDW vacation. I have a hearing problem with some people over the phone. Anyway I couldn't understand this woman at all. I was about half way through the call, and I finally had to put my wife on the phone to finish up.

My wife hung up the phone before she told me the final price for the trip. When she did I knew it was way to much. I called back, and got another cast member. He told me our reservation was for 3 adults rather than 2. It seems a Kitty Pierce had joined us for vacation. I said "Who the hell is Kitty Pierce?". Anyway we got it straightened out, and got a credit to our credit card.

To this day Kitty gets mail from Disney, and even pin code offerings. So if WDW can do this for Kitty Pierce, even though she doesn't exist, I can understand why your husband got the e-mail rather than you.
