Not everything has to be new and modern and competitive with WDW ... some things can be comfortable, nostalgic ... just like so much of Disney is. Sharon "No" countdown date...which is sooo sad!!

Did it make you feel less at home? To me, just visiting the resort makes me feel like I am home. I understand you have feelings of nostalgia about the DLH. But the hotel and it's grounds have changed significantly over the years, so I'd guess those feelings wouldn't go away if an all-new DLH were built in its place.

Originally Posted By trekkeruss <<GCH...yep, and yes, it is very nice, but it does not supply that magical feel for me>> Hmm, interesting. Do you think if Disney had more 'Disney' at the GCH, it would be more magical to you? Would characters roaming around the grand hall change your perception?

I have stayed at this hotel a total of four times over the past year and a half. It is nice because it is close to the park, but not worth the hundreds of dollars you pay for a small room. Concerns that I have had with the Disney Grand conclude with the Valet Parking crew having difficulty finding my rental car, finding another woman's bra in the closet and room service knocking on our door at 10:30PM in error. At that time of night, with my three year old attempting to go to sleep after a long day at the park, she jumped out of bed, tripped over the corner a table and came home with a concussion on her forehead. I am a service oriented individual, who does not mind paying for service. However, after several attempts in believing that the Grand is a high serviced hotel, I have had to come to terms that it is not the hotel is claims to be. Save your money and spend it on the kids. Four visits later, the only things that I have come to appreciate about the Grand is that it is close to the park. Anything above that....forget it!<<

The bra is a fairly glaring error in housekeeping. Having room service knock on the wrong door I would not consider bad service, just an honest mistake.

You don't have to tear them down and start over just find a "theme" as many have said already. For the price they charge currently I wouldn't want to stay at either since they don't seem very "Disney" to me when I can pay a little bit more and stay at the GCH. Maybe my opinion is bias since the GCH reminds me of the Ahwahnee in Yosemite and since I love that hotel so much we are even getting married their in May.
