I'm not alarmed because look at those numbers the other way around: 25.5% say there's no need to be able to read a dictionary means that 74.5% probably said there was. 25% say it's unnecessary to read a newspaper means that 75% said there was. (And as peeaanuut said, they may be reading 'newspapers' but online rather than print.) 26% say there's no need to listen to radio means that 74% probably said there was. That's a big chunk of folks making the choice to tune out of the world and avoid news except about topics they are interested in, perhaps. I'm going to hope that as a good percentage of those folks mature they'll understand why being informed matters and will seek to do that, regardless of which medium they prefer.

I admit I have one, but like I said I tend to keep my cell conversations brief, and they're usually job related. I abhor that I have to have a cell phone for my jobs (On-Call and telecommuting). We as humans survived forever without them. I read the newspaper during lunch, well skim it. I listen to the radio in the car once and awhile.
