I wouldn't be surprised if WDI, to simply avoid the pressure, just misled Ops with the intent to tell them LATER they were going to open after the New Year.

Given the foolishness of opening some attractions prematurely, that's what I would do if I were on the design team. It'll be done when it's good and ready.

To me that's the biggest issue about this change in opening dates.

There was never any plan to open it partly completed. <

and although I missed HM and SSE - two of my top 10 things to do at WDW this last trip -- this is the right way to do things. I missed them but next trip they will be better - I am all for that.

fighting over beads eh ?? :)

been to N.O 3 times, once of which was for Mardi gras - and I have to say - it was quite the experience ( but not for everybody) and that I enjoyed N.O. a lot more in the non Mardi gras times -- too many people who simply get out of control - and my guess is they are mainly all visitors

if you're that close likely there will some hours of soft openings if you're in the right place at the right time.

Yes. What's worse is Disney used to be GREAT about planning ... even before the Internet existed (or anyone knew about it).

But since the start of this decade, the website changes very frequently. Usually, park hours can't ever be considered the real deal until the week before the next two week period starts because that's when the printed brochures etc ... get done.

Just last week, Disney notched down some very late hours at MK for Christmas week. It 'was' going to be 8-1 for like six days followed by 8-2 on 12/30-31 (with an absurd 5 a.m. EMH night/morning one of those days ... where the MK would operate for 23 straight hours). DAK hours for December also were recently tweaked.

And I still wouldn't count on them.

As to attraction rehabs, when Disney's business model changed drastically in the mid-90s, so did the scheduling of downtime for attractions. Sometimes, it's an almost last-minute deal.

With SSE closed for the holidays, it makes me wonder if Disney might un-mothball a pavilion it has boarded up and painted over to increase capacity.

I know that means less for epcot during the busy season but I think guests will appreciate the delay in the long run. maybe mr holms can learn something from this and not reopen the mountain until it's totally ready. unlike reopening the mansion while they were still tweeking things.

A gutted Wonders of Life Pavilion would be a poor substitute for a sparkling new Spaceship Earth.

The "flashing" for beads thing really only occurs in the Quarter, and it's definitely tourist thing. You'll NEVER see that at the parades around my house.

The Mardi Gras I love and miss was much more local and family oriented. We'd go out early in the morning and bring king cake and fried chicken and our family (and thousands of other families) would wait for the parade. Now, even in Metairie where I live, it's 10-15 deep on Mardi Gras Day. It's ridiculous.

Sometimes delays like this are limted by supplier leadtimes and capabilities. Plus, if we expect complex mechanisms for the attraction details, chances are that those technologies are not behaving as engineering expects. They must go through a few phases of refinement.

I just got back from the world's largest Halloween Party in West Hollywood (100,000 people on Sunset Blvd)... and there was some flashing going on ... and a lot of exposed flesh ... and I kind of wonder how comfortable it is to have nothing but a chain up your butt (but that's another subject!)
