If they couldn't reprogram the cabin moves that fast, perhaps they could have different destinations on different days (programming the moves before the day began) so that at least a multi-day visitor could go to different destinations. I doubt that will happen, though. I just don't think they'll spring for it. Since the announcement that STII was coming, I haven't heard much about what the new destination IS, though. Has anyone?

When one breaksdown and does not properly reset to "home" (the position needed for the drawbridges to lower and connect to the cabin) then they have to manually maneuver it there to get guests off. Seen it happen, not fun for the guests.

Any TL cm know about this? Do they have to "check the moves" of the cabins every morning before they let guests on? If so, I'd imagine they'd have to do a test run every time they changed the programming/moves, just to be sure everything was okay. If not legally (and that's possible too - I don't know what the law is on this), then just because of legitimate concern for safety. So alternate days would probably make more sense than multi-destinations on the same day, unless they took ST down completely for a half hour or so in the middle of the day, which would seem unlikely. It's probably all academic anyway - if they were planning multiple destinations, they almost certainly would have trumpeted it when the announced STII.

I think you're being a bit too grand with the "multiple destination" idea - they're all still going to be programmed ahead of time. It's simply minor changes in the vehicle movement during the show portion. It's not going to magically decide a new route, render new graphics, and then calculate the movement to match. That's going to already be done and the morning tests will cover it, since it's multiple shows they may put in a "limits" test that covers the motion limits of all the shows combined.

(No to say it isn't a GREAT flight, and a great attraction.) I recall that the 360 theater in Disneyland's TL had different shows at different times of the day. That was done with film reels running through projectors. Surely with today's tech, they could create 3 or 4 different ST journeys, and change them out with the flip of a switch. (Or click of a mouse!)

I just assume that with different films for different destinations (in our theoretical world), that the films would have the dips and turns at different points, thus the sim moves would have to happen at different times for the different destinations. I assumed these would be pre-programmed, of course, and you'd just boot up "Destination A" or "Destination B, C, or D," and you'd be set. But I wondered if you'd have to do a dry run each time you changed before letting passengers on. <That's going to already be done and the morning tests will cover it, since it's multiple shows they may put in a "limits" test that covers the motion limits of all the shows combined. > That would make sense. Of course, sometimes the law (particularly CA state park-safety laws) err on the side of caution, so maybe according to the state that wouldn't be "good enough." Of course, we'll probably never have to find out; it took them over 20 years to get Lucas to make ONE new film for this; I doubt he made any more (though that would be great). I'm still curious to hear from TL cm's how long the test takes at the beginning of the day.

Star Tours (and the cartoony thing on tv) just seems like a overly labored attempt to artificially extend the whole star wars brand long after it's expiration date.

How fresh is that?" You could also agrgue the Disney franchise isnt fresh anymore. The Mickey mouse cartoons they have these day suck compare to the originals. Star wars is a classic, i love star wars and i didnt see the fist episodes until i was 13. You could also argue why put in the little mermaid ride when the movie came out in 1989? Why not put in the princess and the frog instead? Star wars still sells and it will for years to come. I agree the new cartoony stuff on tv is crap.
