I'm going to get that put on a t-shirt -- with images of the empty PeopleMover track, the now gone waterfalls at Disneyland Hotel, and the never-to-see-light-of-day 'Tron' attraction.

Just pokin' your eyes out, oc_dean -- got nothin' but love for you, man! :)

I think they should take the arcade out too. You can go to innoventions and play guitar hero and other games for free if you want to.

Put this on the shirt to represent Dean:

When an attraction of some sort opens on those old tracks the Starcade facility could be put back into use.

Rocket rods had an abysmal capacity even when it operated at full efficiency, which didn't happen much. It's queue sprawled over almost half the available space in the land.

While that space was eventually reclaimed from 'queue hell' to become Buzz, now it seems that the old star traders retail space is being converted to queues for ST2. This too is likely short term. They'll be an initial surge of interest when the new attraction opens, and long waits. But like all film-based attractions it will likely subside fairly quickly.

Does anybody know what the PPH will be for ST2? Is it more or less than the original?

I believe the Star Traders store is simply being remodeled, not converted to queue for Star Tours. At least I was told in December by a Cast Member in the store that it was going to be remodeled. I went in the relocated Star Traders over the weekend and it certainly looks temporary.

    >>HUH?-WHAT? HUH?-WHAT? Is this some theory or educated guess?<<
It's just a simple explanation of the facts.

    >>When did this information 'all of sudden' come to light???<<
For some here, at 3:05pm on Wednesday, February 16, apparently.

    >>Those ramps are not that steep at all... Who made that determination?<<
"Not that steep at all" is not the burden of proof. It is based on a clearly defined set of building standards, as delineated in the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The ramp as it exists does not meet a specific height/length ratio. I know because I have had to design many ramps in buildings ("public accommodations") to be ADA compliant.

    >>For just a tiny area ... Why would there need to be anything more, than a speed ramp?<<
Doesn't matter how large or small the area is. If it is a public accommodation, it must be accessible.

    >>That access was just fine from 1977-1999 - 22 years. What act in 1999 called the area - Not assessable enough?<<
1990, actually, was when the clock started ticking. After that date, it had to be made ADA compliant, or no longer used as a public accommodation.

    >>I'd like to know more.<<
Hope the above was an adequate explanation.

Sources? Or should I just bluster "HUH?-WHAT? HUH?-WHAT? Is this some theory or educated guess?" and leave it at that?

    EXCERPT:
    >>4.8 Ramps.

4.8.1* General. Any part of an accessible route with a slope greater than 1:20 shall be considered a ramp and shall comply with 4.8.

4.8.2* Slope and Rise. The least possible slope shall be used for any ramp. The maximum slope of a ramp in new construction shall be 1:12. The maximum rise for any run shall be 30 in (760 mm) (see Fig. 16). Curb ramps and ramps to be constructed on existing sites or in existing buildings or facilities may have slopes and rises as allowed in 4.1.6(3)(a) if space limitations prohibit the use of a 1:12 slope or less.<<

    What this means:
A ramp must be a minimum of twelve inches (one foot) long for every inch in rise. If a ramp exceeds 30 inches in height (ie: 2'6"), it must terminate in a landing. In other words, after 30 feet, there must be a landing before another ramp may be constructed, again to a maximum of 2'6" in height. That makes it 60 feet, plus the length of the ADA compliant landing (>>4.8.4* Landings. (2) The landing length shall be a minimum of 60 in (1525 mm) clear.<<) So... a five foot rise is now at 65 feet of ramp to make it compliant. For a ten foot rise (about the height of the second level of the Starcade), there would have to be 135 feet of ramp(Four sections of ramp + three landings). Oh, and did I mention that the surface of the ramp is also specified by the ADA? Guess whether the surface of a Speed Ramp meets ADA code.

But there is accommodation for ramps in existing buildings!
    >>4.1.6 Accessible Buildings: Alterations. (3) Special Technical Provisions for Alterations to Existing Buildings and Facilities:

    (a) Ramps: Curb ramps and interior or exterior ramps to be constructed on sites or in existing buildings or facilities where space limitations prohibit the use of a 1:12 slope or less may have slopes and rises as follows:

    (i) A slope between 1:10 and 1:12 is allowed for a maximum rise of 6 inches.

(ii) A slope between 1:8 and 1:10 is allowed for a maximum rise of 3 inches. A slope steeper than 1:8 is not allowed.<<

    Cheers!

What the arcade meant for my oldest DD and I in the 70's and 80's, was a place for us to "park" DH and the boys for about an hour so we could shop without then standing there whining at us :) A perfect match and one I remember fondly. Both of us doing something the other thought was boring and a waste of money.

Really? That's not what I was told.

Apparently, TDA got fed up with guests going upstairs to the second level and cutting into the SM queue on the terrace. The sliding glass doors to the terrace must remain unlocked for emergency egress reasons, which meant a CM had to be stationed nearby to prevent the cut-ins. Closing off the second level was simply to save money.
