I DID think about going a few years back but ruled it out due to money (its actually quite expensive to get around) and just the logistics of going there and then hitting other parts of an extended trip I was trying to include at the time. I will take a look though and there are things I MIGHT can help you with :).

We watched CSI and the Star Trek references were the highlight and left DH and I laughing and feeling like total geeks! LOL

WD, thanks for sharing your Trek tidbits. Initially DH and I weren't looking forward to this one but the more previews we see, the more excited we get. From your comments/reviews, it sounds like a good'n!

I was able catch some of the Trek "in jokes" (like Captain Archer's beagle) that I forgot from before. The cast was great, especially Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty, & Chekov. I really like Pike's character in this version too. Even skewing from the 'canon' of the original series and films didn't seem so shocking to me this time around. When JJ Abrams (and Paramount) are finally done with this new series of films (what, you thought this one would be it?!?), they could possibly set 'right' what went 'wrong' in this film and set the Trek universe back to normal if they wish.

My main complaint still, is the annoying hand held camera-work throughout. This isn't somebody's home movie or documentary about the future. It should have steady shots and glorious vistas for the audience. I remember that it made me a bit queasy in the theatre, and it still is a bit disconcerting on the small screen. I hope that in the eventual sequel, we can get less bouncing of the camera and better focus on the surroundings, both with the actors and the special effects. This isn't an MTV video! The new Battlestar Galactica did this and, along with the choppy story telling, it annoyed me so much I gave up watching the show! At least this new Trek was much more engrossing story wise. Enough so that I'm looking forward to the next installment!

Now the thing is he might not necessarily be the villain since they are in an alternate timeline.

I would very much like to see the "Anheuser Busch" Engineering section of the ship replaced with something that looks appropriate for such futuristic technology: The Warp Drive

(The engineering section was filmed at the Anheuser Busch Brewery in Van Nuys. Hence, all the aluminum cylinder containers, piping throughout the plant, etc.)

So .. you create an engineering section for a 23rd century ship ... that looks like a mid 20th century brewery? Right?

I'd like to see a new timeline with a Warp Drive that looks like a Warp Drive.

It may not look futuristic, but it is probably closer to what the reality might be. Think about today's high tech military or space machinery. Once you strip away the facade, it still comes down to lowly nuts and bolts and wires and everything else crude looking.

And sorry Dean, but I read countless articles about this film when it came out and I doubt they would restore the original timeline. The entire point of changing it was so that they could do their own thing and now have the geeks cry 'blasphemy' everytime they change anything remotely from the past.

So I dont see any changes in that regard. The Khan rumor has been spreading for months, but I hope whatever villian they choose, its someone original. I dont really care to see a different version of Kahn in this universe or redo their introduction.

    We'll see in 2012 though ;).

You don't even have to strip anything away. A friend of mine took me on a submarine tour some years ago. It looked VERY low tech, even though it wasn't.

I think it was just a cheap means to keep the budget lower .. than build an engineering section that looks like something that would propel a ship to travel faster than the speed of light!

If they do a time travel where they try to save Vulcan .. and alter the future again ... perhaps a slightly different Enterprise will emerge .. and with it .. an engineering section that looks like something out of the 23rd Century.

The producers cleverly used time travel to alter the future ... and thus, they were able to come up with a different Enterprise design. Well .. who's to say "Time travel change #2" won't alter the design in a few subtle ways (??)

    We'll see.

Blame Battlestar Galactica for this. The remake of BSG was almost a revolt against "futurisic" Sc Fi. Hence no laser weapons, the interior of Galactica looks like the interior of a naval ship, etc.
