They already announced the blueray release for April, so I would imagine it'd be long gone from theaters well before that happens. I would've thought the same as you if I hadn't heard about the blueray thing.

To me, the theater experience will always be superior, and there will be some fans who want to see it one more time in the theater whether it is out on blueray or not. I will probably be one of those die-hards in the theater.

No one expected Frozen to do as well as it did. It (barely) won its first weekend and then was quickly dethroned by the Hobbit. Frozen did great word-of-mouth and lasted a while. But it's digital release was three months after its theatrical release--compared to five months for Jurassic World, Furious 7, and Inside/Out. Those major blockbusters were pretty much absent from first-run theaters when their digital releases happened. Things are definitely changing, but your assumptions about Star Wars still being in a lot of first-run theaters into March or April are probably right. It's not very likely. Digital/blu ray releases are definitely tied to theatrical release. These things are carefully timed by studios.

The Grapes of Wrath (better than GWTW, IMO), Pinocchio (still the greatest animated feature ever) AND Fantasia, His Girl Friday (my favorite Hollywood comedy ever), Rebecca (Hitchcock's first US film and Oscar best pic that year) and many more. Both years were great but I have to pick 1940.
