Maybe it is an X-Wing drone? Kind of like the dragon they had fly over new fantasyland.

The one that the lawyers won't let fly over the park when guests are present, because they're afraid it will fall out of the sky? Seems unlikely that those same lawyers would let a drone X-wing do laps over Anaheim

Even the coordinated drones from nighttime shows seem to have limited usage, given the strictness of the lawyers. They could be used for something like Illuminations at Epcot, which takes place over a non-guest area while still relatively close to guests, but it would be tough to do in a castle park, where the pyro effects are both larger (due to distance) and over areas that have guests passing through

This will be the first big expansion in Disneyland park in the 'post Disneysea' era.

In that, the design aesthetic of Disneyland's Big Thunder Mountain is very different from Disneyseas' Mt. Prometheus.

The elements of Disneyland have a certain scale, and I wonder about how this new section with 'Star Wars' will work.

    Anyone else with me?

A lot of people have been complaining that nothing significant has been done at DL in ages. That is going to change, and with change comes ... change. I'm sure that some will be unhappy with this change but I also think that the majority will be thrilled and will overlook the negatives, and that DL will have wall to wall crowds year round until the novelty of Star Wars Land wears off.

I'm really glad you brought up the limited attraction aspect of all of this. It's great that Disney now has SW and can make films we probably would not have had. And soon this new land of SW, but I hope they will be able to match this powerful story-telling with equally powerful new ride technology. Little Mermaid and Cars movies have both enjoyed huge film success yet Cars was a 2 hour wait and Little Mermaid was a 2 minute wait the last time I was there. Obviously the new and expansive ride technology of Cars is the difference there.

Imagine if instead of using old omnimover technology for Mermaid they had created something new like submersibles shaped like Ursula's crystal ball that we could get inside of and would actually go underwater. I would think that line would be 2 hours long, I know I would wait for that. I'm hoping that SWL will have amazing new ride technologies, like we've never seen before. Otherwise, if these already few attractions have recycled ride technology like Mermaid, I don't think they'll be getting a large number of return visits.

Little Mermaid is a people eater therefore it has a minimum wait. The Haunted Mansion would have a similar wait time if it didn't have the stretching room. Adventure thru Inner Space was always a walk on because of the omnimover.

So, when they open SWL, wouldn't it make sense for the next big project to be a Tomorrowland re-do? After all, I can't imagine Star Tours and the other SW stuff would stick around in TL, leaving the land pretty barren. Expanding Fantasyland seems like it should be a much lower priority....

I agree. I think it is easy for Disneyland fans to think it is all about the ride-count since DL has so many of them. But those of us whose "home park" is WDW have come to value parks like Epcot and Animal Kingdom which are far more about creating an environment than they are about ride-count.
