Although the technology used in the Forbidden Journey is way beyond that used in ToT you have to expect that... it is almost 20 years newer.

Now it is either the Studios or Epcot. I'm halfway surprised with the money they are dumping on New Fantasyland... it's not like people had stopped going to the Magic Kingdom. I welcome the upgrade, but am somewhat surprised by it.

Through the years, I've had a couple different friends who work for Disney mention that they were able to pick out my posts (without knowing my screenname). These folks weren't exactly the types who could approve a big budget attraction, but they did have power to make decisions that would directly impact the parks' design and/or operations. I think they were reading the boards on their own, rather than as part of an 'assignment', but they're definitely aware of what's going on around them

Probably because DT was a Disney Production and Roger Rabbit was several studios and charactors involved. They did if I remember right had the lab and the steamroller and a little area for that then and a photo op with Jessica. And they painted the the buildings on one of the city streets cartoon colors of Tracey. But thats all I remember.

At the time that the Studios was built, Dick Tracy was in production. Obviously in hindsight Dick Tracy didn't end up being the blockbuster that Disney thought it was going to be. Personally I enjoy the movie. Warren Beatty was the one who brought Dick Tracy to Disney to direct and star in. At the time the idea of using a lot of primary colors in the sets and costumes was interesting. And yeah, behind the make-up you had a lot of star power and let's not forget Madonna.

I was working with Imagineering on the Disney-MGM Studios project and everything that we were hearing from Burbank was that Dick Tracy was going to be huge. Plus by having Dick Tracy at the Studios when it opened gave the new theme park a feeling of being current and up to date. At the time the tram tour went down NY Street and there was even a moment when gangsters stopped the tram and did some small schtick and the driver talked about the movie. Remember that Disney was competing with Universal at the time over the Studio park. So there were a lot of reasons for the Dick Tracy push.

As for Roger Rabbit. The Dip Mobile was basically in the process of being destroyed in London, where the film had just wrapped up when Michael Eisner saw some rushes and had it flown over to WDW to be a part of the Studios. After Roger Rabbit opened there was a big push with Roger Rabbit stuff. I think the shame of Roger Rabbit is that the shorts never took off like Disney thought they would. And the inability of the creative folks to come to terms on a sequel kind of ruined what could have been a great brand for Disney.

But also the movie audience that saw Roger Rabbit were a lot of us that went to movies and did get to see a cartoon before the movie. But that was in the early 90's right before the attention of the audience was that of a Nat.

Unfortunately, it just didnt pan out.

Biggest issues with 'Dick Tracy' IMO...

    1. Danny Elfmam score -- not a good match -- sounds like 'Batman' instead, a 'Scott Joplin' -like ragtime score might have worked better. Plus, Stephen Sondheim wrote songs for the movie. What a coup that is!

    2. The make-up. Some of the work is impressive. Flattop is very well done. But in general, it becomes a distraction and kind of gross.

    3. The script. A bit tedious really. The movie overall just plods along.

    4. The director. Beatty is a good Tracy, but like many actor / directors -- I'm not sure he was able to handle both.

Anyway -- sorry to interrupt :)

I'll take anything over Laugh Floor, including any old dusted off TL projects like Captain Plecto's Galactic Musical Review, Alien Encounter, Tron, or even something Incredible.
