I don't think there are near enough perks for any of the hotels to warrant that kind of price.

Sure the GCH is beautiful to walk through, but anyone can enjoy that part of it for free, once you get into the room and compare that to something else you could get for a fifth of the price, hard to justify.

But they won't. The strategy in Anaheim, as opposed to Orlando where Disney has tens of thousands of rooms, is exclusivity. If they offer too many rooms in Anaheim they will have to discount them.

In Orlando geography works in their favor, as staying off property can be inconvenient, unlike in Anaheim.

I find staying on-site to be extremely inconvenient. Pre-plan meals, rely on buses or boats for transportation, inability to do anything besides Disney and so on.

The only entity that this is convenient for is Disney. It is filed under "gotcha" now give me your money...all of it. They have so many people convinced that the Disney experience is only available to those that stay on site, and many folks have sincerely bought into it. I once said that marketing is not to be taken seriously by the public.

Personally, I have stayed on-site only once in the 30 years I have been visiting. I don't feel that I have missed anything, especially after staying on-site once. That just made my feelings stronger.

If demand stays as high as it is, they can build a hotel and keep exclusivity.

I've stayed on and off. Much prefer on.

A big if. There are only so many people who can afford $500 a night hotel rooms.

My wife and I have talked over the years about "Wouldn't it be fun if we stayed there sometime?" when exploring the hotel lobby or whatever, but in the end, I'm not sure for us it would really be worth it.

If we had unlimited funds and tons of vacation time available, then spending some leisurely days at the hotel might be a nice treat. But since both are in short supply, not likely to happen.

I prefer to stay onsite at WDW ans typically do. However, now I rarely stay at a Disney resort. Most quests forget that there are several various hotels on WDW property that are non-Disney hotels. After talking with many local Floridians during my trips to WDW who always seem to stay at the Downtown Disney Hotels, it sorta wakes you up to reality. I enjoy the Disney Hotels, but find the prices for the Moderate and Deluxe Hotels to be crazy. Since, I typically visit WDW during times of the year when weather can be unprdictable. I prefer to staying in a completely enclosed hotel where all I have to do is walk into an enclosed lobby and go up and elevator to my room. Or, in the morning drop down and elevator to get a cup of coffee. I've hiked accross some of the Moderate's vast campuses,(as well as Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge since you can't get to it's foodcourt from inside the actualy building, entry is only from the outside), first thing on winter mornings or in the rain, to get to the foodcourt, to get 4 cups of coffee for myself and others staying in my partys room(s). Been there done that!

I'll take the all enclosed hotels with elevators and plush queen size beds at Value resort prices in Downtown Disney anyday!
