I am not the exception to the rule. I might very well be the exception to the rule among the self-proclaimed Christians who post in WE. But among Christians in general? Nope. Sadly some of the loudest and most visible "Christians" out there are those who are preaching far, far different views than those espoused by true followers of Christ. This is true of many groups, don't you think? The most visible and most militant are rarely truly representative of the group at large. Throughout my lifetime, the vast majority of religious people I've known (of most religions, not just Christianity) are good people who try very hard to walk the walk. But there are always the wild-eyed, self serving individuals who wave their own religion's banner aggressively but don't do much in the way of trying to practice the tenets of that faith in the way they live their lives and treat other people. *They* are the exception. (And can I just say how bizarre, in a wonderful way, it is to be having a friendly conversation about this here?)

I've known so many good, Christian people who really go out of their way to walk the walk and they do not use their religion to hurt or judge others. I wish they got more credit than they do.

But if more reasonable people entered the conversations, maybe they wouldn't get so bad in the first place. When religious zealots are the only ones leading the conversation, it's hard to not address that zealotry. I shouldn't have to constantly say "I know that all Christians don't do this but..." in every comment. I really try to make sure that I am only talking about a certain type of Christian (or other person) in my posts but I cannot do it every single time. I feel like people need to speak up if they want their side presented. I also think that maybe a separate thread *should* have been started for that discussion instead of bringing it up in this thread because it rather detracts from the intent to show support here.

I chose to speak up here because it seemed a very appropriate place to point out that not all religious people are anti-gay. But you're right, it does derail the thread a bit. So back to the topic at hand.
