Nope. A lie is a lie.

When you KNOW the MSEP is going to be playing at MK for the rest of 2010 and most of 2011 and you announce it as a two-month promotion, you are lying.

    Pure and simple.

I KNEW that I was going to be able to see MSEP even if I wasn't there for the Summer Nightastic promo, but most folks believe what a company tells them (now whether this is smart in 21st century USA is a whole 'nother matter). The 'fact' that it was here for a 'limited run' also made many folks assume that SpectroMagic would be back in mid-August.

Playing games with the truth is part and parcel of corporate communications these days. But let's not defend them.

This isn't really new ... I recall talking with then EPCOT VP George Kalogridis about the infamous wand as it was being completed and him flat out saying it would be there for '10 year or more' ... at the same time, Disney marketed it as something just around for the Milennium Celebration ... all while getting the new sign created and the press releases ready saying it was all due to 'guest demand'

Apparently, WoC is so good they don't want MSEP any more. (At least that's how Al is spinning his original reporting of it being a seasonal absence.)

And half these people went online and had us telling them that MSEP would most likely stay.

Sure, I get your point that it's bending the truth, but that's part of it. It's not the end of the world.

Not defending the man, or their practices, but I think that this type of promotion (Playing on scarcity and "value") works well for them. If it does, they might as well use it.

Keeping it in WDW the entire time just makes more sense from a logistics standpoint. It's just not all that easy to ship a parade across the country.

And the winter run at DCA is so short that it doesn't even make sense to me when they have the parade just sitting in storage. It is really worth training all those performers for a 2-and-a-half week run? It's always shockingly short when they do announce the schedule for the parade, so it just makes a lot more sense to forget about those two-dozen performances. It gets dark early enough in southern California that they can have a ton of WOC shows each night (it's plenty dark by 5 or 5:30), which would more than make up for it.

I think Al is a little confused. We have a TWO YEAR contract with MSEP.

These two stories don't seem to mesh at all. I think Al is just writiing this new thing to cover up the fact that his source was mistaken.

Not likely. While many folks read what we write here, it's not that large a group. We can be significant, but not most of the time and not on something like this.

<<Sure, I get your point that it's bending the truth, but that's part of it. It's not the end of the world. >>

When you start defending lying it is a slippery slope. As someone who wants to go into law, you should understand that.

Of course it isn't the end of the world. Just like stealing a pack of gum isn't as bad as robbing a bank (although some might argue the latter has it coming after what they've done to this country! ... that's facetious, of course, just having fun with some friends at NSA!)

Yes. Lying and using guests as an excuse has and does work well for TWDC.

    From the start. It happens.

He misses things often (for instance not having DL's price increases in today's column) ... or the fact Tony Baxter has nothing of substance on his plate right now, which likely means he is gone very soon in favor of most-hated Imagineer by fanbois (11 years running) Tom Fitzgerald.

Al has a great batting average, but he still strikes out from time to time.

    ~Wonder if he'll be at the party!~
