People born in the US had, on average, less then 1 child per person, which would lead to a reduction in the population overall. That said, what needs to take place is a teaching in less industrialized countries. Women need schooling to build self-worth. They need to be taught that child-bearing is not all they are good for, that they can read, and write, and work if they want to. The poorest areas of these countries seem to be where the most children are born. Birth control should be taught there, if for nothing else, so fewer children die of hunger, thirst and disease. Also, cows are a big problem. I like an occasional hamburger as much as the next person, but cows take up huge amounts of water and grain, enough to end world hunger, and they produce very little meat in return. I don't mean dairy cows, I mean those we raise to eat. They also pollute the air with gases that contribute to global warming. Needless to say, after that class I didn't eat beef for 2 years. I still rarely do.
