Tammy never stopped being an attention whore. But she also turned out to be a substantive, compassionate, loving REAL person.

(We can only hope to be surprised to learn the same about Hillary.)

Tammy Faye Bakker Mesner was a professional celebrity. But -- surprise! -- she ended up being a truly sympathetic person. I'm very sorry for her loss to cancer, and I'm respectful of the dignity she showed in that fight. And, having lost my father in a similar fight, I'm grateful for all she did to de-stigmatize the disease.

Well said, Inspector. She was one of those people that was bizarre yet also somehow likeable in spite of it.

She wore her own designer style of Christianity: Love those who adore you. So while she definitely lived up to her PTL monogram ("People that Love," she always said), she sort-of missed the humility and humanity of it all. She never seemed to acknowledge her own participation in a scheme that unapologetically took money from others in the name of faith, and spent it lavishly on lifestyle. Even when she failed to humble herself and was, instead, humbled by public scandal, she never could bring herself to abandon her attachment to fame, wealth, and material things. She was a woman with amazing energy and enthusiasm for life, and yet never seemed to direct those energies into things that really mattered, which is really too bad.
