For me, the main problem with TDL is a lack of unique attractions and mediocre shows. We were interested only in Pooh, Splash, HM and Small World overlays, plus the Mickey Mouse Review (I was shocked with its preshow, never before I saw anything so horribly dated in other theme parks.)

Almost all stage shows are the same as during our previous visit and I'm not a big fan of any TDR show anyway. The only exception is Over the Waves which was really funny. But after seeing all these TDR offers I appreciate HKDL two shows much more now.

As for parades, they are surely grand and impressive, but this leads to one more problem: they lose dynamics. There was a similar problem with the stunt show at WDSP, but after re-export from Florida it became more energetic.

And surely Fantillusion even in its current form blows DreamLights far far away.

I agree about Dreamlights being much better than Fantillusion. However, it did not cost nearly that much. Joe released the official figures for almost all E-ticket shows and attractions. Dreamlights cost about 3 billion yen, about $30 million. That has been the budget for most of TDR's shows. BraviSEAmo and Legend of Mythica both cost about $30 million too.

Here's the list posted by Joe.

3rd Disney Hotel and Theater Facilities (2007 / 50 billion)
    Tower of Terror (2006 / 21 billion)
    Raging Spirits (2005 / 8 billion)
    BraviSEAmo! (2004 / 3 billion)
    Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters (2004 / 5 billion)
Tokyo DisneySea & Tokyo DisneySea Hotel Miracosta (2001 / 338 billion)
Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights (2001 / 3 billion)
    Ikspiari & Disney Ambassador Hotel (2000 / 65 billion)
    Pooh's Hunny Hunt (2000 / 11 billion)
    MicroAdventure! (1997 / 2.8 billion)
    Toontown (1996 / 15 billion)
    Disney's Fantillusion! (1995 / 3 billion)
    Splash Mountain & Critter Country (1993 / 28.5 billion)
    Star Tours (1989 / 14.5 billion)
    Big Thunder Mountain (1987 / 8 billion)
    Tokyo Disneyland (1983 / 150 billion)

Well that is your loss.. and honestly? Have you seen any given show at the MK lately? It's no secret TDL has the best shows and parades of any of the disneyland-type parks, and if that is not your cup of tea, I can understand that, but calling them mediocre definitely lowers your credibility.

    >>We were interested only in Pooh, Splash, HM and Small World overlays<<

    See? I rest my case.

    >>plus the Mickey Mouse Review (I was shocked with its preshow, never before I saw anything so horribly dated in other theme parks.)<<

Of course it is!! It's a classic musical show from 1971. Your mom wasn't even born yet!! Praise it for still being a unique offering. Now, you want to talk dated? How about a discussion on the MK's many popular rides... like their C-tickets and HM for example...

Perhaps I'm thinking of seeing some numbers that reflect the fact that Electrical Parade Dreamlights cost double the amount that any parade in a US Disney park had cost.
Or maybe I'm just crazy. :)
Great viewing today, by the way, on DeepDisney of the truly small crowds at the Tokyo Resort today. All the FastPass machines were turned off.

I am not sure why everyone finds this so out of the norm. Anyone who is familiar with TDR would know January is the slowest month of the whole year, and not long ago, TDL used to be closed on some days in january. So that is not surprising to me. As a matter of fact, I was at the MK yesterday with G-Fan and the crowds were very small as well and several FP machines were not in operation at most FP attractions. Same difference.

And yes, Jan/Feb USED to be the nicest time to visit TDL (IF you didn't mind freezing!), but since they started with the winter special events even THOSE times can often become crowded (pretty much weekends only though).

I used to LOVE visiting TDL in the dead of winter, because I could enjoy everything with no wait. Even more, I used to enjoy September/October which ALSO used to be "off" until they figured out how to do Halloween!
