There is info and storyline teasers but not really much info on cultures, and if there was....I missed it.

    >>What does the paint on the buildings refer to?<<

That there was a budget? Hahaha!!!
J/K... No really.. I do not know much about this or if this is something related to cultural traits in the Himalayan regions.. However, I did kid with G-Fan that some of the Yeti statues in the queue appeared to be painted in such way that the Yetis appeared to be vomiting blood... A premonition of the quality of the ride..? Hahaha... It made for a good laugh. But I am glad to report no one will be vomiting unless you really have a very bad weak stomach for these types of rides.

    >>is there a drop during the backwards portion of the ride?<<

To the best of my recollection... when you go back you are in a slight drop and turning left in a reverse mode, with a slight upward climb at the end of it.. It was the only moment of the ride my stomach felt a bit unsettled. The banking left as you go backward does intensify the g-force but this is not a "drop down" type drop as you see it outside the mountain. This is also the ONLY time you go backward. It was reported that the train would go backward and forward several times but that is not the case.

    ---------------

One more comment I have to add... Some of you have emailed me in private to ask why I gave a B+ and not a A or A+ when in fact they feel the ride deserves it. Well... the reason why I granted a B+ is because I felt the theme was uneven throughout the ride... Unlike say... Big Thunder..where you feel you are in an arrid desert canyon through the whole ride... Here at EE, you go from Icy cold surroundings to lush bamboo and bushes and some portions in the gardens below have very minimal theming in regards to the himalayan or being in an artic style mountain expedition... In fact, I would have loved for this ride to be mostly indoors as it would have been a better execution of it's theme, withmore potential for thrills besides the obvious G-Forces... For example: anyone who has been in the revolving avalanche scene in the Universal Studios Hollywood backlot tram tour would know how effective that scene is in creating a sensation of spinning and vertigo.. A similar peril inside Everest would have been a show stopper (if not stomach turner...) but you get the idea.

Still.... I recommend the ride highly.

Compared to the MK's Space Mountain? I do prefer Everest for many reasons... More updated show, smoother ride and comfortable seating arrangement among other things but not saying that one is necesarily better than the other since they aim to please in two different ways. I can say the same for Big Thunder versus EE, but to me..Thunder has a better, cohesive and more immersive show to go along with it..so, BTM wins by a nose.

    >>And how does it compare with Disneyland's Matterhorn, in terms of thrills?<<

Again. Two different monsters here. Can't compare due to it's technical aspects but will say what most others have said here... EE is sort of the Matterhorn on steroids. Yet, I do prefer both on the same level because I like the show on the Matterhorn a bit better than EE..again due to it's more cohesive feel.

He didn't elaborate further but my advise to anyone going there on Sunday is to GET UP EARLY and ARRIVE AS THE PARK IS OPENING FOR BUSINESS. And bring your friend Patience with you.

Witches, if you can ride Big Thunder and fly thru the air in bumpy brooms.. you can handle EE. It is a bit more intense over the other rides but nothing that will blow your wigs off. Go try it if you haven't already.

Spoken like a true Tokyo Disney Resort patron! :)

TDLFAN, as always, THANK YOU for your great efforts to inform us all honestly about the new attraction, and for providing an AWSOME review that makes us all feel like we've "been there"!

Haven't checked out the pics yet, but I shall tomorrow and I'll be looking for that "Pepper's Ghost" pic that SuperDry mentioned!

By the way, SuperDry, where are YOUR reviews of Tokyo Disney? You were there recently, were you not? ;)
