This could be part of why I'm not overly sold on WDW's queue. No matter how great it is, I always get on the ride and go, "that's it?" Took me a long time as a kid to realize how different the rides were and that it wasn't my memory or mood or anything else. I didn't pay so much attention to detail as a kid, and we are talking about visits a year or two apart between going to the parks on opposite coasts. So the queue in WDW is associated with let down that is unexplained, and the DL queue is associated with my favorite ride experience ever. Hard to be objective!

Not Paris, Paris has a better queue, a better ride and a fab restaurant, as well as a killer exterior with Skull Rock and a Pirate Ship right out front.

EE - I think somebody may have been studying too hard for end of year exams, or something!

I mean, have you even BEEN to DL?!?

I remember when I was planning my holiday many years ago, I had a very good friend in LA sorting out a lot of the details for me. He rang me one night and was VERY disappointed - he had phoned DL personally to check which rides would be down and he was HEART BROKEN to learn that POTC would be closed while I was there. I assured him it would be fine since we were heading off to Florida after and would see it there. He was like, "DUDE!!! You DO NOT understand - DL's version has the catacombs and the transit tunnel - WDW's is like HALF the attraction!!!"

Anyway, things worked out because the refurb schedule was pushed back and I ended up going on DL's, WDW's AND TDL's in ONE holiday!

And yeah, as cool as WDW's queue is, NOTHING beats the atmospheric buildup in the caves and tunnels in DL's version!

Based on the fact that we have a themed queue, and they don't, that's all I'm implying.

Even the exiting part of the attraction was done so masterfully with the added very creepy wall tombs. I don't know if it is true or not but I read it got about 60 million addition. If it didn't get that budget number it sure as heck looks like it did!!

so instead of throwing around the old 'hyperbole' comment why not check the ride out and see the changes firsthand for the two Mansions(Magic Kingdom vs Tokyo) are most different indeed.

But with WDW's Mansion refurb in 2007, I think it clearly is the winner these days. The new effects really are stunning.

TDL is mostly like DL. The outside entrance is totally different, but once you're inside, it's basically the same. Veer left immediately upon entering, and in front of you are the boats swinging around their U-turn to get pointed toward the load station. Once you load, you float through the bayou, with the Blue Bayou restaurant on the right, and swamp on both sides, fireflies, and then the old man sitting on his porch with the banjo music playing, etc.

The big difference in the queue area is that the boats coming into the load station are empty, as the riders offload at the BOTTOM of the waterfall and never get to ride "up the waterfall" as Julie once put it. I think it's a bit disappointing that you don't get to ride back up the waterfall, but it does make the setup for the ride a bit more mysterious: since you don't see the passengers return and get off, where did they go? Maybe they don't make it back...

I think that although the queue in WDW is much better, the initial bayou scene at DL/TDL far outweighs WDW's queue, and it's very much in the same part of the attraction: prior to the drop and before you enter the world of the pirates - setting up the story.

I wouldn't go as far as saying that... yes... think I would enjoy myself.

People are going to have a field day with that comment, thanks, Dave. LOL.

The queue is great, I agree. Sets the mood correctly. But, it also needs the additional scenes, like in DL.

However, if WDW were the only version, I would feel that the story is complete. The catacombs are a good "opener" to the ride as well.

Not that I'm an apologist for a shorter ride... I think we should have gotten the WRE.

I don't really see Dl Pirates as having a real 'queue' since one loads up rather quickly once inside the building[It does have the small sand island with pirate props immediately inside the building which beckons the guest and a nice planked walkway with appropriate lighting leading up to loading though]

totally agree with that. I can't think of any attraction on earth that creates such the perfect mood for the main event as the bayou and talking skull.....simply priceless storytelling.

Well, the lobby/queue/Shiriki of Hightower Hotel comes pretty close actually.

Have just now had a chance to see this thread, and I see that WDW had the best restrooms of all.

What can I say? All is right with the World.

(Although...the Lights, Motors, Action restrooms could've used some detailed tiles. Or how about piping in the smell of burnt rubber into the toilet stalls. Kinda like the confectionery smells piped along Main Street?)
