    That said, some of the points are good ones.

    THAT said, as someone with southern roots through my mom, there's a lot of value there too, along with the crazy.

    What was it some skinny guy said in 2004? We're not red states and blue states, we're the United States?

    And we shouldn't stomp our feet and scream secession (or "I'm moving to Canada!") when someone we don't like so well wins an election?

    Maybe it's the optimist in me, but I think the fever may be breaking, or at least has a chance to. You do have a few voices in the GOP saying "enough already" to the more extreme positions and tone. It has to start somewhere.

    My guess is that the base will continue to dominate for a while yet, though, and they'll nominate someone far right (like Santorum) in 2016, convinced that that's what America "really" wants.

    Then he'll lose badly and finally the more reasonable voices in the party will be able to say "see? We told you so," and THEN, finally, the party will moderate. The fringe nuts will still be there, but they won't wag the dog any more. (Plus, they really are literally dying off.)

    That's just a guess. I think it will happen, but I think we do have more years of division and ugliness to get through first. But we'll get through them.

    Oh, and this tanning salon owner blamed the President for his financial woes. Yes, a tanning salon owner in KEY WEST, FLORIDA thinks it's the President's fault he has no clientele. That makes sense, right? *sigh*

I find that hard to believe when I checked wikipedia ( I know lousy source, but best I could find) and saw the % of population obese by state...

    <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obesity_in_the_United_States" target="_blank">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O...d_States</a>

    It seems all states are bad, with red states fairing no better and no worse than blue states.

    When I post crap like that I get slammed, but it's ok for others to post straight out lies?

    Actually, the time lapse map on that page does show that obesity is highest in the South.

    Also some more data points:

    The top 12 states for obesity:

    1. Mississippi (34.9%);
    2. Louisiana (33.4%);
    3. West Virginia (32.4%);
    4. Alabama (32.0%);
    5. Michigan (31.3%);
    6. Oklahoma (31.1%);
    7. Arkansas (30.9%);
    8. (tie) Indiana (30.8%); and South Carolina (30.8%);
    10. (tie) Kentucky (30.4%); and Texas (30.4%);
    12. Missouri (30.3%);

    And the 12 leanest:

    39. Wyoming (25.0%);
    40. Arizona (24.7%);
    41. Montana (24.6%);
    42. (tie) Connecticut (24.5%); Nevada (24.5%); and New York (24.5%);
    45. Utah (24.4%);
    46. California (23.8%);
    47. (tie) District of Columbia (23.7%); and New Jersey (23.7%);
    49. Massachusetts (22.7%);
    50. Hawaii (21.8%);
    51. Colorado (20.7%).

    See a pattern?

    >>It seems all states are bad<<

    But they aren't the same. Not by a long shot.

    And as long as were on that, we need to drop that red state/blue state crap. It is harmful to our identity and reduces our election process down to a game of chutes and ladders. Seems like we should be more enlightened then that by now.
