Anyway I hope they have a plan to camouflage the framework so that it is complimentary to the Disneyland/DCA Resort. I am not asking for a lot but some effort will be appreciated.

Hey, come to think of it. If Disney puts rockwork or more up on the backside of Carsland, couldn't they petition the city of Anaheim for the right to charge a toll/admission for anyone who drives Katella or Harbor?
Maybe they should redress that parking structure as something like a castle and turn it into an attraction too?
When or where does it stop?

Well, actually the show buildings for Pirates and Mansion and Small World are hidden beyond the berm, and so no one really knows that they're there.

On the other hand, the show building for Indiana Jones had to be placed in an area that could be viewed by lots of guests at Downtown Disney and on the trams.

So, Disney made the decision to lightly dress up that show building with palm tree decals and then live palm trees around it. It looks pretty good.

And proves that Disney does try to cover up ugly buildings that they feel are egregious and work against the overall aesthetic of the parks and surrounding areas.

There's an awful lot of banana leaf plants and palm trees between the street and the mountain.

    A view down Katella:
    <a href="http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k375/newdug/DLR010611DCAEntrance095.jpg" target="_blank">http://i325.photobucket.com/al...e095.jpg</a>
    More palms.

The view in a more open area:

This is the most open area of all-- the "gap" in the streetscape where the old Alpine Inn and a rental car agency are located. This is, I believe, the last of the old-style themed motels in the immediate area of Disneyland.

And (just for comparison's sake), here's the Anaheim Hilton's lovely "gift to the street:"
    <a href="http://i325.photobucket.com/albums/k375/newdug/DLR010611DCAEntrance097.jpg" target="_blank">http://i325.photobucket.com/al...e097.jpg</a>
This photo was taken directly across Katella from the Carsland mountain. This has been the view for some twenty years...

I know its not at all my concern but I do feel bad for what that back side of Carsland will look for hte little hotels around there, and the Hilton too which sells "park view."

I'm almost always at a Disney property, but I recently stayed at hte Hilton and from the top of their parking deck it was great to see the fun wheel, fireworks, hte whole park. Mind you it wasn't an experience to replace being in the park, but it was a "good enough" vantage point if you're there.

Now it will be pretty funky at best, but technically again that's not Disney's problem. From their hotels and DTD, etc it will look very nice.

On the other hand has anybody ever stayed at the Alpine Inn? Any "history" or interesting info about this hotel? During the holidays the hotel was decorated with simple old fashion xmas lights and it was delightful to see. I have placed it on my must stay list next holidays. Hope it is still open...

Um... you should see the view that guests have when they look out of their windows at the massive Hilton hotel here in downtown San Francisco. Looking at the back of Disney theme park rides and acres of palm and banana trees is nothing compared to that!

It's hard to consider the backside of the fake mountains as being all that unattractive when those big steel utility poles march up and down Katella and Harbor Blvd. Thank you, power company, for your great assistance in making Anaheim perfect for Disney theme parks and millions of tourists. You're almost right up there with the people who dreamt up and created DCA!

And does anyone know what exactly the DisCo is going to do to the sides of Car Land that face the west and south?

There will be some sort of fancy metal fencing on the back side that will help cover up the steel structure. From my understanding it will have designs on it that will make it look a lot more appealing from the street than just a blank wall or exposed steel. It wasn't clear to me if the designs would be painted on the fencing, or if they would be cut out from several different styles of wire mesh. I also didn't get a chance to find out what the designs would be, but given the materials they're using and the position of them, I would guess that they would be fairly abstract shapes (like curves and lines) rather than something distinctly recognizable (like a character's face).
