It's the most flavorless, pointless meat on earth. Is it disgusting? Not at all. It's just so...bland. That's why most of us drown it in gravy. I have yet to eat turkey that I really enjoyed. Every year I lobby to have something different, and every year my family looks at me as if I've lost my bloody mind. It's supposed to be a big family meal, right? I've suggested surf and turf - I'd even spring for the nice lobster tails from Costco. "Tradition," they all say. When did I join the cast of Fiddler on the Roof?

How about some serious barbecue, I suggest? Ribs, pulled pork, etc. Nope. How about a roasted lamb, turned on a spit for a few hours? Nope. Year after year I'm forced to eat bland old turkey :)

I add the smiley face because it's not really that big of a deal. I've just never understood the whole "tradition" thing. Tradition's whatever you make it - make your own.

(No, it's not how the turkey's being cooked; I've had turkey at a variety of locales. I don't eat turkey sandwiches from delis, either. I can't imagine choosing that when there's roast beef, salami, pastrami, etc.)

Awesome! We loved it, my grandparents loved it... Everyone was happy.

And I haven't seen shrimp like those since. I think they must all be caught too soon these days... ;-)

My point...? Make whatever the heck you like on Thanksgiving, ecdc! :)

Really the only time I remember having turkey is when we had family or friends over or if we went to someone else's house!

And it was a joke anyway, right? No malicious intent. Kar2oonMan got it.

Oh, I know there are risks involved, and next week every newspaper and magazine and TV news program will send up the red flags about how toxic it is to cook stuffing in the bird.

But stuffing cooked sans bird and bird cooked sans stuffing just doesn't taste as good. And by crackey, if it was good enough for my grandparents, then consarn it, it's good enough for me!

My boss is a vegetarian and her two daughters are Vegans. She told me all about the Tofurkey she was going to serve (about 2 yrs. ago) and was just so excited about it. After Thanksgiving she said it was the most disgusting thing she'd ever set on her Thanksgiving table! And NOBODY ate it.
STILthDestroyer...your Jell-O concoction sounds delish to me...send me your recipe!
That Perfection Salad sounded pretty good to me too (minus the pimentos...can't imagine that in Jell-O)
Okay, I know I'm in the minority here...I like just about everything, and I really look forward to all the traditional fare. Even the dreaded green bean casserole (which we only have on occasion). Cranberry sauce in all it's various forms is delightful. And I absolutely LOVE sweet potatoes/yams. And all those jello salads...mmmmm

That would be in the "era" when Betty Crocker ruled and anything made with Jello or Campbells soup was gourmet :)
