    Inside a book

    2. How did you rebel as a child?

I would hide from my mom and read instead of doing my chores or helping out.

    3. What about being a child do you miss the most?

All the time I had to read, and the sense that the library was an undiscovered country. I have such a hard time finding stuff I like to read now!!

I never lacked for alone time, so if someone wanted to go with me, I always welcomed the company.

    2. I rebelled against anything that didn't make any sense to me, like I do a lot now, particularly those things that hold me down or others down without good reason. If I was not understood, or belittled, or made fun of, I got angry--not good, I know--I was a kid, after all. Sometimes this rebellion propelled me to the top of acheivement "just to show them". Less often, it led to destructive things like minor (very minor) vandalism or sabetoge.

    3. I miss the constant playing. If there was a sandlot football or baseball game anywhere I knew about, I was there. Tackle football, no pads, in the mud. Fishing, biking, sliding down mossy spillways and the record setting glides across the pools of water below. Hide and seek. Kick the Can. Stickball. Snowball fights with elaborate snow forts in Minnesota. Wiffleball on the school playground in Indiana. I sought the games. Good people, good kids taught me to play, their lessons so enduring, and still so sweet.

I miss my dad teaching me things and the daily association and devotion of my mother. I miss the closeness of my brothers and sisters.

I don't miss the awkwardness of first loves in favor of the true love I have today.

    1. Did you have a special place where you went to be alone as a child?
Yep - My neighbor had a treehouse and I used to hide in there. I had to pay their son not to say anything.

    2. How did you rebel as a child?

How didn't I? I never was good. My sister used to charge me a quarter each time she caught me being bad. Poor girl. She was a quarternaire at the age of 12!

    3. What about being a child do you miss the most?
Hanging out at the skateboard park with my friends - no grownups around to tell us what to do.

When I lived in Alaska, I used to walk way out into the valley and up into the hills. There were some empty buildings from WWII that I liked to hang out in. I especially liked this one area where there was a standing fireplace and chimney but no building. I usually only did this in the summer when it was light until about 1 am.

    2. How did you rebel as a child?
I wouldn't sing or dance like my mom wanted me to. I also didn't look super feminine most of the time. That really bugged my mom. Oh, and I wore chucks. That really ticked her off. LOL

    3. What about being a child do you miss the most?
I laughed a lot more then than I do now. In a way, I was a lot more confident in some things that I'm not now. But, of course, I am more confident in other ways. I hated living with my mom when I was a kid so being an adult will always be better!

I had a couple of places actually. One...I'd climb our backyard fence and go and sit on the banks of the creek that ran behind our house and just daydream and listen to everything around me...or Two...at the end of our block there was this church. Behind this church was a pear orchard. Smack dab in the middle of this pear orchard was a huge single walnut tree. I would climb that tree and sit for hours...you could see everything from there. I was always particularly fascinated with the skull and crossbones that had been carved into the bark of the tree and had scarred over. Fuel for the imagination!

    2. How did you rebel as a child?
I don't think I was usually a rebellious child BUT...if I had been accused of something I did NOT do, I would often do it so that their accusations wouldn't be for naught. Hey, I was a kid!

    3. What about being a child do you miss the most?
Being able to eat anything and everything and not worry about the consequences. And when I was very young I didn't give a fig about what people thought of me and so I talked and played and laughed without a care. I do miss that!

My room. I liked to be alone and read or draw.

    2. How did you rebel as a child?

    I didn't really rebel as a child.....that came when I was older.

    3. What about being a child do you miss the most?

Like others the carefree and stressfree days of being a kid. And the energy as well.

My room - mom knew that if I was in my room that I wanted to be left alone because otherwise I was ALWAYS outside!

    2. How did you rebel as a child?
I didn't really rebel that much that I remember - I was an only child so there really wasn't any competition for mom's attention or anything like that.

    3. What about being a child do you miss the most?
    No bills.
