As I already said I'm not saying I don't agree with his opinion I just don't think the Oscars is the place for political rants. IN MY OPINION. Sheesh. If it was any other actor in that movie (Milk) I would have probably seen it. I wasn't trying to turn it into an argument, just giving my opinion. So sorry if I ticked someone off.

I also liked the "movie studio" look when Daniel Craig and Sarah Jessica Parker were presenting.

Nice. Hated: The in memorium segment. The idea to have Queen Latifah (good choice) up there live singing "I'll Be Seeing You" (PERFECT choice) was inspired, actually. But then they ruined it by not zooming in on the screen with the clips and staying there after a few bars of the song, and instead "treating" us to a view mostly of an empty-ish stage with the clips taking up a fraction of the screen and weirdly oscillating back and forth. Much of the time you couldn't even see who was being showcased. Awful, awful, awful. As everyone seems to agree, I doubt they'll make that mistake again. Liked: Hugh Jackman. He's a very personable guy and a legit singing/dancing talent, but I still wondered if the comedy quotient would be high enough. Smartly, they let people like Steve Martin, Tina Fey, and Ben Stiller take care of that (each of whom WERE funny by doing what they're good at, rather than giving them lame lines as sometimes happens). Disliked: Shoehorning the 3 best song nominees together with 90 seconds of each (no wonder Peter Gabriel decided not to come). And why only 3 nominees? The Springsteen song from the Wrestler would seem to be a no-brainer nominee (it won the Golden Globe). And surely there was a 5th in there somewhere. They just dissed songwriters this year. Boo. Liked: That they included a couple of kisses from Milk in the "romance" montage. It would have stuck out pretty badly if they hadn't, but it took a while to get there so I thought they might have wimped out in deference to the sensibilities of some of the world audience (or some of the US audience for that matter). But they didn't - yay. Liked a lot: the general feel of the show, which did seem to move better than most. They did do that annoying thing a lot of shows do with hardly any commercial breaks for the first part of the show, then too many near the end, but I guess that's par for the course.

I'm pretty sure that as the memorial montage was starting that Hugh Jackman or someone yelled, "open the curtain"...someone missed their cue LOVED that each nominated actor/actress had a special moment just for them and it was fun to see the winners again. I was feeling really badly for Sophia Loren's arms until I realized that it was gauzy material and not her skin! LOVED it when Kate called out to her dad HATED it when they panned to Angelina during Jennifers presenting. LOVED Hugh Jackman, he was great and very good point Dabob2 about leaving the humor to the comedians DH still hasn't seen the Letterman interview but thought Ben was hilarious anyway Who was with Sean Penn last night?

I mean, great to remind us that Cuba Gooding, Jr. won the Supporting Actor Oscar, since his career is DOA. It made the present award seem less monumental, for me anyway. And whoever directed this year's broadcast needs to be banned from working again. The camera work on the Memorium (R.I.P. Montage) was pathetic. The camera roamed so much it was virtually impossible to read the occupations of the people who were being saluted. Severely detracted from the gravitas of the montage. Not to mention Queen Latifah howling in the background. What was wrong with some somber, orchestral music to accompany the montage? And the High School Musical kids?? What were they doing there? I thought this was a night to celebrate Hollywood's BEST. But apparently, for Disney it's just another chance to PROMOTE THEIR PRODUCT. And Jack Nicholson wasn't there either. That dropped the cool factor down by at least half. (Actually there were a lot of stars I didn't see in the crowd...) Better luck next year, I guess.

Hugh Jackman was a great host, and I really hope they bring him back. I also liked having previous winners introduce the acting nominees. At first, I was kind of turned off by it, but the more I saw, the more I enjoyed it. I especially liked Cuba digging at RJD for playing a white guy playing a black guy (can't wait to see RJD's Shaft! ;-)). My quibble is with a couple of the awards given out. I was truly disappointed that Benjamin Button won the Best Makeup and Best Visual Effects awards. I have seen the film, and I think it was more the Academy members giving the awards to a more "reputible" film than to action/comic book films than for achievement. I think Iron Man should have won the Visual Effects award & Hellboy II should have won the Makeup award (heck, just the market scene should have done that! Hellboy & Abe Sapien are just icing on the cake!). All in all, it was an enjoyable show, and it didn't lag at all for me this year.
