In one variation was to replace the rockets with "Jet Packs", where riders would have been strapped in, much like a "Flying" rollercoaster or Hang Glider. I however doubt this will get approved because it would require a high height restriction, and most likely wouldn't be comfortable. Even if the Astro Orbitor was too heavy to place on top of the platform, they would just build a new Rockets ride to put on the platform. Point is, the plan is to put the rockets back up there. Al Lutz even mentioned this once. Call me a FAIL all you like Bob, but have you even seen the concept art? If not, you shouldn't be speaking like you know everything.>> OK, so you prowled Imagineering and saw an OLD concept art that was an attempt to add a Tron overlay onto Tomorrowland (unless you are just posing)? Unfortunately, they go through dozens of those every year that go nowhere, just as the concept you described. Seeing “concept art”” in no way proves something will happen. This is an excellent example as the “concept art” you saw has been tucked away in some drawer and never went beyond that and a simple model. Don’t assume that others here don’t have connections at Imagineering and have an idea what is going on.

Disney does not pay for my wages. Every sponsor (Taylor Morrison, Honda, Microsoft, HP, Yamaha, Southern California Edison, and Siemens) pays for every single wage in our building. We have over 40 CMs currently in our building. I'm also under a TEAMSTERS Union contract and so my pay is about a dollar or two more than any other CM. That is just for The Neighborhood. The Dream Home and ASIMO are paid even more than that!

We first heard that there would be a revamp before the 50th, which only sort-of happened (new paint colors, but no major structural changes). We were also supposed to believe that there was going to be one around 2008, and another in 2012. While I completely agree that it needs to be done, I'm simply not counting on it happening any time soon. Given that Star Tours 2 will be opening as a semi-headliner in just a few weeks with no notable changes to the land, I don't see major changes coming to the land in the forseeable future. I would love to see them take a really new and fresh look at the area, and completely redo it. However, there are just too many attractions that are here for the long-term for any major modifications to happen. Captain EO needs to go, but not much else will be taken out any time soon, and I just can't see them retheming the entire land for a theater-based 3D movie attraction. It's just not enough to get people excited any more (though I will be plenty excited when they finally give EO the axe...the second time).

Originally Posted By crapshoot <<I always assumed that major expansion decisions weren't made by park management, but rather by the powers on high in Burbank.>> The initial sparks for project ideas come out of Park Management making their annual lists of Wants, Needs and Desires and Budgets. They look for someone in Glendale to further champion their project ideas. Depending on the projected cost of a particular project will then determine how much leverage Glendale applys. For instance, small projects can be completely engineered and Project Mangaged thru TDA. Medium projects might be engineered in Glendale. Large projects will more than likely be farmed out for the Engineering work needed, but Glendale staff will be onsite during construction.
