One side claims to be for the little guy, the environment, minorities, women, etc. and against big fat cats keeping them down -- using race baiting and class evny to get elected. The other side claims to be for traditional values, religious beliefs, pro-life, anti-quotas, etc. Also using race baiting and fear tactics to get elected. Whatever it takes to get elected, however, once they are there its just more of the same. Sure, they'll come out and give a fear inducing speech against the other party now and then -- to ensure their future job or their party in general -- but nothing is ever done to make progress. As an example, the current discontent the Dems feel for the war in Iraq. They sure talked up and down that something would be done about that, but once they get in, they just stay the course. Not to give the Republicans a pass. They sure talk the illegal immigration chant up and down, but they sure haven't done squat to resolve that issue. What progress can we really claim over the past 20 years as a result of our politicians listening to the people and doing our work? The older I get the more I think politicians really care more about their next job than doing what is right for the country -- which I think is the main difference between politicians now and 200 years ago -- when political positions were not quite the career they are now. Merry Christmas.

However, I think it is safe to say that if we hadn't put Big Oil in the White House with a Republican Congress, there might be a few things different in our country today. While politicians may all seem to be cut from the same cloth, I think there are enough important differences to warrant people paying attention and making their vote count.

Both corrupt beyond most peoples comprehension - yep Both in the pockets of big business - you betcha so instead of homers rooting for 'their team' and how different they are, maybe it's time to pay closer attention and demand more from both. The giving of a pass to the home team ( so to speak) is why both parties have been able to get this far down the path to begin with.
