    ak/recipe/churros.htm</a>

Here's the ultimate recipe to make your own churros at home, just like they were at the churrería stands. Of course, the difference here is price. Here you can make a whole batch for what is cost for a few. Once you make the churros, you can make the authentic chocolate dip to dunk them in.

    Ingredients: (Makes one platefull)
    Vegetable or Olive Oil
    1 cup water
1/2 cup margarine or butter <<<<<
    1/4 teaspoon salt <<<<<<<
    1 cup all-purpose flour
    3 eggs
    1/4 cup sugar
    1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Prepare to fry the churros by heating oil in a pan (1 to 1&1/2 inches) to 360 degrees F.

To make churro dough, heat water, margarine and salt to rolling boil in 3-quart saucepan; stir in flour. Stir vigorously over low heat until mixture forms a ball, about 1 minute; remove from heat. Beat eggs all at once; continue beating until smooth and then add to saucepan while stirring mixture.

Spoon mixture into cake decorators' tube with large star tip (like the kind use to decorate cakes). Squeeze 4-inch strips of dough into hot oil. Fry 3 or 4 strips at a time until golden brown, turning once, about 2 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels. (Mix Sugar and the optional cinnamon); roll churros in sugar or dump the sugar on the pile of churros, like the pros. That churro taste will take you right back to your favorite summer days walking the paseos of Spain.

Note: REAL churros in Spain are made without cinnamon mixed with the sugar, but the cinnamon adds an extra nice flavor.

    Now from Jollytime.com

    <a href="http://www.jollytime.com/Cozykitchen/PerfectPopCornTips.asp#Kernel" target="_blank">http://www.jollytime.com/Cozyk
    itchen/PerfectPopCornTips.asp#Kernel</a>

    Kernel Pop Corn Tips

Pour 3 tablespoons of cooking oil and 1/3 cup pop corn (or enough to cover the bottom of the pan no more than one kernel deep) into any heavy, 3 qt., or larger pan with lid. Cover pan and shake gently over medium heat, allowing the steam to escape from popping kernels. Remove pan from heat when popping stops and carefully pour popped kernels into large bowl. Season to taste

Now granted the above churro recipe is for deep frying (which is how real churros are made) but the popcorn Disney makes doesn't use butter either. And after a little checking I learned that Disney only uses 1 teaspoon or less of salt (depending on the CM preparing it)

The first is the hijacking of our thread by Popcornians. I respect your right to post freely anywhere you wish, but to argue with Churroians in a Churroian thread is kind of ridiculous.

The second is the awards I so foolishly awarded FaMulan and Ursus J Bear. They have been removed and have been permanently erased from the Churroian Hall of Records.

The third is the obvious Popcornian Movement, or rather, feeble attempt at converting loyal Churroians. Churroians are for one snack. This is a pledge they made in acceptance of their position as a Churroian Royal. Your attempt at conversion is laughable at best.

The fourth is the cult nonsense. You accuse us of being a cult because we are all friends and we all enjoy one snack food. I don't think we need to apologize to you for our own snacking preferences. I therefore am going to call you out individually by names:

Ursus: Your comments were uncalled for and have upset the Churroian people. We do not share your preference in snack foods, which is why we formed our own thread- a place we hoped we would not come under ridicule from those whose tastes differed from our own. I thought that by awarding you for your services to LP would help foster ties between our nation and your rag-tag band of Popcornians. I was wrong, and for this I apologize to the Churroian people.

FaMulan: You have broken our truce with your comments towards to "leadership of Churroia." The leadership of Churroia is Chris and I, and you knew that. Therefore you took the first shot and I cannot be held responsible for my use of the English language. I abided by the agreement I made with you and I did everything in my power to foster a friendship between the two of us. You seem to have a problem opening to this; and this is your problem, not mine. Your problem is you take things to seriously and you have trouble recognizing one's goodwill. It would seem that I am not the one who needs to mature. I am sorry for your losses of the past year, but I did not cause them so do not, and I repeat, do not take that out on me.

Cathy: I respect your opinions and thoughts, and I always look forward to your posts, but this time, I'm afraid, I must respectfully disagree with your opinions. The Church and Empire of the Most Holy Churro is a group of friends who share a common taste in snack foods, no more, no less. This is the Play Pen, and we are playing. The "legislation" we pass at our session's of the "Imperial Senate" have no real base- what will become of them? Nothing, because it's all fun and game! We're trying to make a fun and enjoyable thread about a small "subculture" of Churroians. If you are that deeply jealous of us, I invite you to form your own group of friends with the same tastes as yourself.

And I wish to close by saying that these accusations and allegations of the Popcornians deeply distress me. It would seem that it is not the Churroians who need to mature, but the Popcornians.

Ok, now you're being silly. If it's all 'fun and games' as you say, then you need to stop taking everything so personally. I'm sorry for spoiling your fun. And, I'm sorry that you can't take a bit of good natured ribbing, which is what I was doling out. But to say that I am jealous - come on, I am a 35 year old married mother of three with a very full life. I am HARDLY jealous of a teenaged kid who fills his days making imperial judgements about snack food.

    Who's the jealous one here?

I'm not a "kid person," for one, for two, I'm gay and therefore will not be getting married (unless some laws are changed). And as far as "filling my days with making Imperial orders about snack foods" goes, I'll have you know that I go to one of our nation's top arts high schools. I get up at 5:30 AM, leave hom at 6:30, get to school at 7:30, start school at 8:00 and for the first half of the day I do academics. For the second half, I spend the next 3 and half hours rehearsing, doing strenuous workouts and movements (Sumo, Suzuki, Tai Chi Chuan, and Yoga, to name a few), pouring over scripts, trying desperatly to analyze Shakespeare, and do technical theatre (building sets, designing lighting, etc). To say I spend my day doing Imperial Orders on snack foods is a joke. I spend my day working and come to LP to have a good time and relax with some good friends.

    You see my point?

We all come to LP to have fun and relax. Your topic is in the playpen. Be prepared to have fun with it. And PLEASE don't take everything so seriously! I don't mean anything mean spirited by any of my comments. I am probably one of the most tolerant people you will ever meet. Remember that when you read my posts, and take it all in stride. Then we'll all be having fun again.

If so I wasn't hijacking anything but merely responding to the nasty description about popcorn and the record needed to be set straight.

Also if you need to call me anything please call me a popcorn lover since popcornians or whatever you call popcorn lovers¡¦ sounds like something Beavis and Butthead would make up or talk about.

And the more imperious and dictatorial the leader sytles him/herself to be, the more those who disagree will strike back.

Also, my position in the Great Snack Wars is merely as a spokesperson for those who prefer the right to snack on any item at any time in any Disneyland property, including both Popcorn and Churros. I claim no leadership role and wish peace on everyone. But I will not hold my tongue because of some pipsqueak teenager with a case of megalomania who refuses to learn the lessons of history.
    Just my opinion.
