The offer of living in a self-defended fortress community with no background checks is going to attract the wrong type of people. Even if 99% are upstanding citizens, there's going to be at least 1 or 2 people that move there because they're wanted elsewhere. And, if the community decided to protect its own, it would eventually result in something like Waco. It doesn't matter how many guns or how much ammunition they have - the gov't has more, and superior numbers of people, patience, and other resources to devote to the situation.
