ARGH! Why won't BBC America have it? I'm not going to get Starz for ONE show. Looks like I'll be looking for it online instead. BOOOO to the BBC for this!

I wonder if the little girl is a reincarnation of Jenny (the Doctor's daughter) from season 4. If my memory of random rumors is correct she was originally intended to die in that episode, but it was requested that she be kept alive. You would assume there was a reason for that. This would however throw out any chance of the little girl being related to Amy, which is certainly implied.

I assumed that River killed the Doctor, but I'm not sure. Mis-direction is key in Doctor Who. I'm still trying to work out who or what (if anyone/thing) actually died when it was predicted at the end of season 4 "Death to the Doctor's most faithful companion".

Have you guys seen the Pirate episode yet? I have to say I was a bit disappointed. In all I think I agree with those that have said they are taking time to warm to this incarnation of Doctor Who. I'm not enjoying Amy anywhere near as much as I did Rose/Martha/Donna and I'm still struggling to get used to Matt Smith - he is the weakest of the "new" Doctors IMHO!!!

As I said above I wasn't a huge fan of the Pirate episode, but there was at least 1 aspect I liked. I'm keen not to spoil so I won't say too much for now, but I found the story a bit too convoluted for the time given and because of the time constraints I thought there were several plot holes that weren't examined including (unless I missed something) a whole character that seemed to vanish with no explanation.

I'm hearing very good things about episode 4 though!!!

The pirates episode was the poorest of Smith’s stories but that was writing and story, not Smith, though it clearly showed tat something else was on the Doctor’s mind as his analysis was off - still doesn’t come close to how bad Daleks in Manhattan was.

I’m going to be one of those contrary people and say how much I am enjoying Matt Smith - he is breath of fresh air and although I adored Tennant his best season was his first (the stories were too, Girl in the Fireplace is my favourite of all the Doctor Who stories), Rose and Donna were great too (never really cared for Martha) but I think he over played it toward the end.

Smith’s job was always going to be harder than Tennants in taking the role as Tennant came in after only one season of Chris playing the role. I also think because they effectively changed out all the characters bar River Song the comfort factor of reassuring faces left the show.

I agree that David Tennant was overplaying it a bit by the end, but most of the "specials" from his final year were pretty dire.

I agree that not every episode needs to reference the overall arc of the season. I am hopeful of getting a few answers in the next episode, but I'm starting to tire of not knowing what's going on. I still don't know if I fully understand last year's finale without trying to tie this in as well.

Glad it wasn't just me that spotted the missing character. I assumed something was cut due to time, but for a flagship show like Doctor Who it was incredibly poor not to try and address it. I've seen a handful of fans complain that they basically ripped off the POTC movies, while I'm not sure that's true, it did seem to be blatantly inspired by them.

I'm looking forward to finding out what the mid-season cliffhanger will be. I have a theory (it could be bunnies), but I'll keep that to myself for now!!!

I think Matt Smith more than earned his stripes in this episode, as did Suranne Jones as said "wife". A great story and script. One of the best episodes of recent years.

    Fantastic.

Still a very good episode. Next week is the start of a two-parter that looks especially creepy!!!

This Doctor can be a bit of a caricature of himself.

The companions are just okay. I do think having a dynamic between two companions is good. And there is certainly something wholesome about two young people flirting who are actually married to each other.

There's a miniepisode - I forget for which charity - that involves the TARDIS landing inside ... the TARDIS. And chaos follows. And it is terrific. Because there seems to be a lot of episodes that take a great ten minute gimmick - meeting Vincent Van Gogh, don't open your eyes, River and the Doctor out of sync - that then has to be drawn out into a forty minute episode. Old Doctor Who often felt drawn out, padded. But never the first two new Doctors. These episodes, more than occasionally.

If you don't want to pay for premium cable, you should look into iTunes. I'm able to watch each episode the day after it's US broadcast, for a 99 cent rental. I bet Torchwood will be in on it too.
