The last four were some of the weakest in this semi. I thought Moldova made a very powerful impression, and am THRILLED that Netherlands advanced. Anouk's song is very sophisticated for Eurovision, not to mention being a big downer. Wasn't sure if the voters would appreciate it enough to put it through. I knew Montenegro didn't have a prayer. Dubstep is an acquired taste, and rap NEVER works in Eurovision. NEVER EVER EVER. I actually thought Serbia were good, relative to what they were trying to accomplish, but oh, those HORRID outfits. Crimes against costuming. Belarus was lousy and didn't deserve to qualify, but there she is. Lucky for her, since she won't have to defect to Sweden now. Croatia were great but were just playing to the wrong crowd. I'm more depressed about Bulgaria's chances than ever now. And I think I speak for everyone all over the world when I say "LITHUANIA???? Who the heck voted for Lithuania?" I'm sure the fans will be poring over the internal point totals when they're released to see how the heck that happened.

I kind of knew that Montenegro stood no chance, but I enjoyed the song. I agree that rap never works and the UK have tried and failed with it at least twice (Love City Groove, anyone?) I agree that The Netherlands song is very sophisticated for Eurovision. Could it be a surprise winner? Lordi weren't an obvious pick either. It reminds me of a film score with lyrics!!!

However, the sheer variety of musical styles on display makes it questionable that anybody with an open mind would find the show completely without merit. Where else are you going to hear Croatian klapa, French blues, Montenegrin rap, Norwegian electro and Macedonian gypsy music, all in one prime time BBC1 show? Open your ears, listen without prejudice and you might just be surprised.<< (Note to The Guardian, though ... There will sadly be no Klapa on BBC1. They didn't qualify for the final.
